Hi,

I bought the Marmitek ControlAnywhere as a RF-IR extender.

I would like to know if the Harmony 1000 (RF) works with ControlAnywhere?

One option (simpler) is to get the Marmitek Easy8 remote but i prefer a more sexy and featured remote like the Harmony.

Otherwise I would have to sell my Marmitek and go for a all-Harmony solution (remote + RF extender).

My devices are hidden in a closet hence the need for a RF-IR extender.

Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated.

cheers!

Not unless it uses Z wave. Z wave is the only way for one RF device to communicate with another RF device from another manufacturer (legally). FCC rules don't allow this outside of Z wave protocol to avoid interference between different products from different mfrs.

If it does support Z wave you'd still need a Z wave compatible harmony like the 890 pro - not sure if the H1000 supports Z wave or not.

The Marmitek ControlAnywhere is not compatible with the Harmony.
It works on 433 MHz.

The z-wave in the 1000 is only for the Extender and not for Lightning or something else.

So if you sell a 1000 with the Extender, you can control all your equipment in the closet.

Another option is a simple IR extender. That's what I have and not only does it allow you to control your remote equipment with any Harmony remote - it also works with all of the OEM remotes (the ones that are IR anyway). And they're a lot cheaper than buying a RF remote with extenders, etc.

Thanks to all for your reply and advice.

Since i prefer to have everything hidden, I guess an IR extender would not be suitable for me as there'll still be a receiver sticking out.

Would probably rethink this setup - probably go for a solution from a single vendor to avoid any compatibility issues. Tsk... gotta sell my Marmitek now...

xlancer,
there will be nothng 'sticking out'. With either the 890 or 1000 remotes you canhide the IR extender behind your closet door.
I have the 890 myself and it controls all my devices from behind a solid wooden entertainment centre.

Hi Sucubus,

Ahh.. I assume u are referring to the RF-IR extender from Harmony and not a simple IR-IR extender?

That explains. Thanks!

For the IR extender, the receiver can be built into the wall or ceiling or even a cabinet face - it's about the size of your pinkie finger. It's not a separate box if that's what you're worried about. Do a google search for IR receiver.

Thanks. Are you referring to the Harmony IR extender? The HIR looks pretty 'big' to me ([Link: amazon.com]).

No, I'm referring to a generic IR receiver like these:

The rest of the system is hidden and the miniature versions can hardly be seen.
