Recently noticed the Volume UP & Down not responding.

This in any of the activities (Watch Cable, DVD, TV).
I have tried many options - trouble shooting via the software- with no luck.

Could the actual buttons of the remote gone bad?

could be - try the volume commands from the LCD in device mode. If those work, check the button mappings to make sure the volume buttons are still mapped to the right commands. If so try redownloading the software to the remote followed by removing and re-adding the sound device (TV or A/V receiver).

By " LCD in device mode " I gather you mean using the 880 remote in TV (device) mode ?
- If so, then same problem.

I did (before posting the other day) retraining the Vol Up & Down from the original TV remote - as its the TV vol that controls the cable box.

Will re installing the software delete all settings & that I have to start from scratch in setting the 880 up?

Thx

Re-installing the software will not change any setting you have programed into your remote as these are stored on the Logitech server not on your PC

Yes - go into Device mode for the TV. BUT - do not use the volume buttons. Use the commands listed in the LCD - those should represent all of the available commands, whether or not they're mapped to a button. You may have 2 different sets of volume commands. Once you find the commands (not buttons!) that work then make sure those are mapped to the volume buttons in device mode and in each activity that uses the TV for sound.

Another way to check if it's transmitting is to look at the display while pressing the buttons. If it's transmitting a little icon appears in the display (top right corner, just to the left of the battery indicator) to indicate this. I've had two 885s and they've both ended up with failing buttons. You might find that if you press really hard the button responds. This is a sure sign of button failure.

Note: In device mode, you will also have to map the Volume Control commands to LCD keys, since by default, they are only mapped to the hard keys (volume buttons).

Got it - and that works.
So must be the hard buttons on the remote.
I wrote to Logitech.

My volume up button on my 880 is failing (have to push very, very hard to get volume to increase) and I have emailed Harmony about the problem. Did you try getting your 885 warranted, and if so, were they amenable to this? Or did you just suck it up and get a replacement at your expense?

This must be an ongoing issue. I had this problem with my old 660 and now with my 890. I emailed logitech. And told them the problem, And asked if i could pay to have it repaired. we emailed back and forth a few times. And now logitech is sending me a new 890.

On my 890 i remapped the volume up button the the mute button as a temporary fix. (i told them that too)
Just a heads up though. If they do set you up to receive a new remote they will deactivate your current one from being updated. So if you plan to do that temp fix do it first before you call/email.

now my only problem is. the 890's are on back order for 3 weeks.

Hope this helps.

I have the same problem with an 880. How old was your remote when Logitech offered to replace it?

I had the remote about a year and a half.

This is what i sent to logitech

"the volume + button doesn't seem to work anymore. I have to press it extremely hard to have a button press register with the remote. And when it does it is either the volume - or mute button. I am concerned if i press it to hard it will crack the circuit board inside
As of now i have the vol + button mapped to the mute button so i do not have to press hard on the button and risk damaging the internals.
I have had the remote over a year so i know my warranty is expired.
as per your site.
"[Link: logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com]"

But i paid allot of money for this remote and i would like to have it repaired."

I did not know about all the posts on remote control central at the time with the same problem. I would suggest sending them all the links you can find with others having the same problem also. i would also check the logitech forums to see if others posted there with similar problems.

Logitech is a really great company. They have the best customer support i have seen by far in a long time. Allot of the big time companys could learn a thing or two from logitch.

My 880 volume control started acting up last week. I have to press really hard for it to work. Even though I have owned the remote for several years, I am disappointed that the remote is failing. I have not abused the remote at all and feel it should last longer than it has. I will email logitech and see what the say.

All Harmony offered me with this same problem was a replacement 880 for $125. I'm obviously out of warranty. I bought a new 890 on eBay for $203 delivered, and it's charging up right now. Looking forward to being able to adjust the stereo volume from out on the patio!
