Question out there on Harmony 550 remote. I dont easily have the origional disc for the remote . I do have Login and password. Customer that has disc is out of town for a week. I am use to doing alot of programming with philips and Rti . This would be the first for Logitech. Can I download the programming software on this site or any other site????.

It's the same for all Harmonys, and will probably do an automatic update to version 7.4.3.

Hi, we have the Harmony 550 which I am getting ready to return. don't get me wrong, Harmony appears to be a class organization with good ideas, but after three weeks and an unknown number of calls, emails, wasted hours (how about 20+), etc., I've about had it. We have a Sony LCD HDTV, Sony BDP-S300 Blu-ray, Scientific Atlanta 8300HD cable box, Harmon/Kardon AVR 247 receiver along with The Bridge iPod dock. Nothing special here, but periodically I have trouble getting the AVR to turn on and have never been able to get the iPod dock to work. I've tried everything that I can think of and before we return the remote, I'm giving one more rep one last try, but I don't have much hope at this point. If I did, I'd be a fool.

Again, the Harmony remotes seem to be well made and thoughtfully organized, but the bottom line is functionality and I can't get ours to work for what we have and if I can't do that, then it isn't doing us much good.

I don't know anything about the other brands, but I will begin to explore them next.

So what's not working? The Devices or the Activities? IF you go into Device mode and use the commands in the LCD - do they work or not? Have you tried teaching the harmony from the OEM remotes?

I've tried resetting the commands for the dock a dozen times, minimum, but nothing works and I've tried getting the remote to 'learn' the command, again, over a dozen times, but it never would. I've also had reps go into our account to set it up and that hasn't worked.

If you don't have a problem, the on-screen Harmony menus work great, but when you have a specific problem that the remote can't learn, you can end up with other issues. As far as the power on, I think they set the signal duration too long and the receiver doesn't like it now.

The dock works from the receiver's remote, right?
Do all the receiver's other commands work?

I never thought you'd be back so quick.

Yes, the receiver does everything it's supposed to using it's own remote. I can't tell if the 247 doesn't like the Harmony remote or the remote doesn't like the 247. Either way, the remote refuses to 'learn'.

:-)
My point was, as the original remote controls both the receiver and the dock and you mention only the dock being a problem, whether the problem IS with the Harmony not controlling just the dock, or whether it's with the Harmony not controlling both the receiver and the dock.

It was the Harmony controlling the receiver. The dock is essentially a passive device and other than charging the iPod, it responds to what the receiver wants.

I did manage to get it working last night, however. In talking to a level 1 rep (the level 2 reps didn't catch it), he mentioned to get the AVR remote to go to The Bridge function in one key press (rather than two) and set it up for DMP and not TAPE. Now, I select the function IPOD, then DEVICES, find DMP in the menu and the input appears on the AVR's display as it should being THE BRIDGE. I could control the volume and the iPod menu was shown on the TV, Play and Pause, but could do little else. Likely the individual functions are not set up properly in the SETTINGS menu for our Harmony account. I'll have to make some changes to enable song selection, venue selection (artist, album, genre, etc.) and so on, but at least it's working now.

In all fairness, the Harmony remote is a good piece of equipment and is very easy to use. The downside is, it took Harmony three weeks to get this problem worked out. I was one step away from returning the remote. Hopefully, I'll be glad that I didn't.

"Harmon/Kardon AVR 247 receiver along with The Bridge iPod dock" isn't something you come across every day!
Looks like for the first three weeks you were very unlucky to get Logi people who didn't know about it, then struck lucky.
This shows that with Logi persistence can be needed, and you were admirably persistent.
Good you like the Harmony anyway and are among the majority who find it easy.
