I want to make an activity to listen to my ipod, but every time I set it up it tells me that I don't have anything that plays digital music. I am using an older onkyo reciever tx-sv545 and have the Ipod pluged into input 1. How do I trick the remote into setting the onkyo to input 1 so I can just manually operate the ipod after I hit the listen to digital music activity?

Create a generic activity with only the receiver and tell it the receiver should be on input 1 for that activity.

Alternatively you could try adding your iPod as a digital music player even though by itself it doesn't offer IR control. Or there may be another activity type specifically for that.

Awsome. That did the trick!

these are the silly work arounds that the "pros" dont want to deal with, akirby.

That is not a work around. That is what the generic activity type was meant for.

Create activity, add receiver, input 1. Done. Takes 2 minutes. That's normal activity setup, not a workaround.

hmmm. ok then, if you say so. just seems a little tedious to have software TELLING ME I CANT CREATE AN ACTIVITY for any reason, then having to find a way "around" it. one might refer to said solution as a "work around".

as a hobbyist end user i couldnt care less if i have to use work arounds (, but i'm sure from an installers perspective its less than desirable.

sorry to the OP, i'm carrying a debate from another thread into yours. i'll butt out now, glad you figured out your problem.

That's because you're UNINFORMED about how the Harmony uses the activity types. If you're setting up a Watch TV type activity then it wants to know which device is used to change channels so that it can automatically map the channel up/down and number buttons appropriately. It wants to know which device is used for sound so it can do the same thing for the volume controls. It also sets up favorite channel lists and other things based on the activity type and type of devices.

If you say you want to setup a watch DVD activity and you don't give it a device capable of playing DVDs then it can't do the setup. If you don't want it to do the automatic setup and you just want to add devices then you use the Generic or Utility activity which was setup for exactly that purpose.

Harmonys aren't the sort of tools that installers need.
I wonder how an installer would deal with an iPod:-)
