Hi all, first post.

Using Harmony 890, with RF control set up. Works great, but one mystery.

When I first power up after any extended period of no use (maybe an hour or more), it does exactly what I want (tv on, receiver on to correct input, cable box/dvr on), and everything looks and sounds good.

However, it takes about five minutes before I can control my cable box (Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 from Comcast). The cable box works, I just can't control it for about five minutes.

All the other components can be controlled, both via selecting the specific activity (watch DVD, play radio, play iPod, etc...) or by selecting the specific device. But the cable box simply won't recognize any signal for the first few minutes. Then, it kicks in and seems to do fine.

Any thoughts????

Can you control the SA box with the original remote when you have this issue?

Yes. If I use the original remote (or any other programmed remote), it works right away.

2 more questions:
What type of TV do you have? Some TV's (LCD I beleive mostly) can interfere with the remote control signals on start up.
What are you using to control the SA box : RF or IR signal?

Sony KDL52XBR4

I am currently using RF to control the cable box.

I have heard about potential LCD interference. But I would assume that would cause a more consistent problem. This is only an issue for the first few minutes after I power up.

Time to troubleshoot: try 2 thngs to eliminate the TV as a source of interference:
turn off the TV while you have this issue and see if it helps.
Secondly try turning down your brightness level on the TV.

Also check your configuration device delay settings for the PVR (SA8300HD). The default values for the Power On and Input delays are rather large (1500/1000 ms). I have mine set to 100 ms for both.
