Snakeboots, I couldn't possibly agree more.
....Light travels faster than sound. That's why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

Because some
people want/need/require more than a Harmony can offer.
If all you want/need/require is the ability to control
your A/V components in a simple "no-brainer" manner, then
the Harmony is probably one of the best choices in it's class.
If, however, you want the ability to control your "Living
Environment" then you shouldn't be considering a Harmony.
Again, can anyone argue this point?
....(in most cases) Harmony remotes can't do what
the "pro's" customer needs/wants/requires.

To argue the point, we would need some factual information.
Obviously it would wrong to say that Harmonys are only good for A/V components; many are used for heating, lighting, air-conditioning, things of that kind.
So, the information we need is what else constitutes a Living Environment.
What else do people want/need/require?

This is why this thread has gone on for so long. People hang on to every individual word that is written and can't seem to grasp the concept that the writer agrees with you....only not in so many words.

Yes. Harmony's can control things other than A/V components. I should have said that before. Sorry.

So, the information we need is what else constitutes a
Living Environment.

Basically, anything that a Harmony can't do.

What else do people want/need/require?

When someone rings my doorbell, my Crestron system automatically mutes & pauses whatever I may be listening to or watching (music, movie, TV, etc.), the security camera over the front door streams the video to my touchpanel (with the ability to transfer the image to any of the touchpanels throughout my house). I can then communicate with the person at the front door and let them in if I choose to do so. You can't do this with a Harmony. Do I need it? No. Do I require it? No. Do I want it? Yes. And that is all that matters in the end.

And before anyone thinks that I'm a Harmony-Hater....I actually own 2 Harmony 1000's and I love them. They are both used on recent extensions (kids rooms).

And once again we're arguing about 2 different things. Home automation goes way beyond the capabilities of a Harmony or most any other universal remote.

Nothing more to be said here on either side. Move along.

And in two different worlds!
I've no problem about answering the door when the bell rings, rather than paying for sci-fi type "Hi-End automation solutions", but - everyone to their own taste [especially if you're a millionaire:-)]!

phew!!! finally everyone agrees that harmony's cant provide the level of customization that the higher end units can, which is why the "pro's" dont use them.

glad we finally cut straight to the heart of this thing! lol
