I just bought a used 720 on ebay and should have it tomorrow. I have two questions. Can I wipe it clean of the previous persons devices and activities. I thought I read on here that only logitech can do that.

Also, what is the limit of steps that can be performed in an activity. I was thinking of what I would need for say watch DVD and I came up with 5 (if I rely on opening the tray to turn on the DVD) but I thought I read somewhere that the limit for commands in an activity was limited to 5.

thanks

A startup Activity can consist of as many commands as needed to turn on all equipment needed for the activity and change inputs and any additional commands you want to add to your startup of that activity. The 5 command limit applies to creating a Sequence to be used while within an activity

Re-installing the firmware (without updating the remote) will wipe it clean, but you don't need to wipe it clean. You configuration is created from your login interface, and saved on a server. When you click "Update Remote" (from your login interface), you configuration is downloaded to the remote replacing what was there. Note: You can NOT upload the configuration from the remote.

The activity will send all necessary power and input commands to all applicable devices to establish that activity. There is no inherent limit other than the maximum number of devices which is 16 for some Harmony models. In addition, you can also use the activity startup/exit macro feature to send additional commands at activity startup and/or exit. I don't know what the limit is for that feature. It's probably limited by the amount of available memory. It will tell you when you run out during the "update the remote" phase.

The activity button mapping also has a sequence feature where you can map a sequence of commands to a single button. Here, the current limit his 5 commands per sequence, and 10 sequences per activity. However, one sequence can NOT call another sequence, but it can call a learnt command that sends a sequence.
