Hi,

Im looking at buying a logitech harmony 1000 and im very impressed with all the reviews i have read. A couple questions i have that havent been answered from it though was wondering if anyone knew.

firstly does this remote work well with a HTPC, i currently use media portal basically the same as media center, was wondering if it works with that.

secondly from the review on this site there was a screenshot that showed the setup for the remote and at the bottom i saw something about a ps3 but the picture cut off, does this remote work with the ps3 for blu-ray playback?

thanks in advance

Ben

It works as well with a HTPC as any other IR remote - which is usually not very well. But that's not the Harmony's fault.

For the PS3 you can either buy a Nyko IR remote ($25) with an IR-USB converter or go to www.schmartz.com and get one of their setups ($35-$50). The cheaper ones don't have on/off control but the $50 schmartz uses an external wire over the PS3 power button to control the power also.

im guessing you would program the harmony to the converter and the converter would do the rest for a ps3?

with the HTPC you saying it would work the same as an official media center remote would from microsoft, it confused me a little.

Note: The Schmartz http://www.schmartz.com site has changed to http://www.schmartstuff.com/
Also see these threads for the Nyko:

Yes. Just remember that universal learning IR remotes do NOT create features. They just send IR commands. It's up to the PC IR receiver Software interface to have and invoke the proper features/actions. Pressing a "magic" button on a universal remote will NOT change your VW Beetle into a Ferrari.
