I continue to have problems with some of my activities and hope someone can provide assistance.
I have an activity that turns on a Sony XBR4 TV, and a PVR. However SOMETIMES the receiver (Sony STR-DG710) also turns on. The receiver is not part of the activity. I can use the device mode to turn off the receiver, however this command is not captured by the Harmony so when I select Off, everything turns off but the receiver turns on!
I did some trouble shooting by turning on the TV directly from the power button on it 5 times and the receiver never turned on. I also turned on the TV with the original remote twice (did not have time before leaving for work) and the receiver did not turn on.
It’s when I use the Harmony to either select the Activity OR when I use device mode to turn on the TV that sometimes the receiver comes on. I should state that the receiver does not come at the same time, there is a slight delay.
Now I thought the problem was due to my multi Sony equipment and it’s Bravia theater link. However I now believe it is a Harmony issue. I understand that the Harmony sends the same signal more than once. I believe it is the repeated signal to turn on the TV that is turning on the receiver. However I cannot seem to find where on the web site you can change the number of repeats?
Am I on the right track or as usually have I off base?

If you can recreate it, try unplugging the HDMI cable from the receiver (and anything else that's connected between the receiver and tv). If it still happens you know it's the IR codes and not the Bravia theater link. If it's the IR codes, try it with the OEM remote. If it doesn't happen, try re-learning the TV power command from the OEM TV remote.
Repeats is under Troubleshooting - Device responds too many times to some commands.

akirby,
Thanks for the suggestion on both further trouble shooting and a solution. Will try tonight!

Also check the power settings of the Sony AVR. Sony is very good as supporting discrete commands (power and input) even if they are not on the OEM remote. First, test the discrete power commands (PowerOn, PowerOff) in device mode. If they work properly (they don't toggle), then change the power configuration to use the discrete method (select the option different buttons for on and off instead of one button for both).

Repeats is under Troubleshooting - Device responds too many times to some commands. That gives a list of numbers from 1 to 5 - is that about repeats??

akirby/jlet,
Thanks for the help. I had a hard time trouble shooting it. This morning I unplugged the HDMI cable and selected my TV without receiver Actitivy. 5 times the receiver did not come on. Then I plugged the HDMI cable back in and 5 times the receiver did not come one!!!!!! Later it did come on with both tests, so I think that concludes it is the remote.
I reduced the repeats to the TV and that had terrible results. Nothing on the TV worked. I did redo the power for the receiver to seperate buttons for on and off. While that has not stopped it from coming on sometimes, now when I turn it off the Harmony knows it is in the off state so when I turn everything off it does not come back on.
I think I am sort of giving up since the problem is not consistant and I can't figure how to resolve it. I will mover the receiver power off on the top of the menu when I need to so it will at least be easier.
Thanks for all your help, but I have to conceed as my wife has already made the "is this thing worth it?" remarks! Despite my wife I am still glad I bought this.

As if the receiver sometime responds to the database TV power command. Which TV command (PowerToggle, or PowerOn) did you test in device mode? If it's the TV PowerToggle, then try the TV discrete PowerOn command. I think your Sony TV supports the discrete power method. If not, then you may have to teach the TV PowerToggle command in RAW mode (select custom at the bottom) from your TV OEM remote. It's possible that the database contains a screwed up TV power command.

When I walked into the room and my boys was watching their TV which is not supposed to turn on the receiver, it was on. So despite their cries against it I starting trouble shooting.
I finally determined my receiver is incorrectly turning on (sometimes) from either a TV power ON or a TV power toggle. I also determined that both equipment respond to a descrete power command.
So my fix was to add the receiver to their activity (Kids TV) and then after about 5 seconds send a power off command to the receiver. I tried this earlier with a power toggle and that did not work as sometimes the receiver was already off, sometimes it was one. With the descrete power off it works all the time.
Still think there may be a better solution, but my work around does! Thanks for all the help.
