Hi,
I just bought a Harmony One to replace an MX-500. I'm not enamored with the power / smart state system. I would just like the power button on the Harmony One to toggle the power on my TV. Is this possible? It doesn't look like I can configure this button and would need to set up a button on the LCD.
Thanks, David

No, you'd have to use the LCD (or a hard button).
But honestly, you don't have to do that. Getting the power set up correctly isn't difficult at all. What is it doing (or not doing) that's causing problems? I guarantee someone can tell you how to fix it in just a few minutes if we know the problem.
Assuming the power command in the harmony command list works, the only issue is whether you have the power control setup as a discrete (separate buttons for on and off and that's all they do) or a toggle (one button that toggles the set on and off). Once that is setup it will work. If it doesn't, try increasing the inter-device delay for the device that isn't working - it's probably just missing the on or off signal.
If you want to leave a device on when switching activities even though it's not in all of the activities, check the "leave unused devices on" option for all the activities. Or just add the device to the activity as a passthrough.

Thanks for the quick response. I have a Vizio plasma, SA 8300HD DVR and Xbox 360 so my setup is pretty simple right now (my 5.1 system is being replaced).
Since 90% of my activities are really watching the DVR I was hoping I could just use the power button as the same as the watch TV activity. I'm not crazy about the feel of the touchscreen.

When you select Watch TV it should automatically turn on the TV and DVR if you have the TV and DVR power setup correctly. Same if you choose watch DVD - DVD and TV should power on. Whatever is on should power off when you hit the OFF button.
IF it's not doing that then something is wrong in the configuration. What exactly doesn't work?

It works as you described, but I wanted to use the power button to start up instead of the touch screen. I guess that is not possible.

The "Off" button is just a "built-in" activity but without any device. That is why it will turn everything off.

Harmonys work through Activities, and the Activities you set up are displayed on the LCD. Touch the Activity you want and it will switch on the devices it needs, TV, DVD, etc. If you don't like the screen then you don't have to use it for anything else. When you've finished for the day, or the session, press the "off" key -that's the only time it's meant to be used.

I too wish the hard button would work this way. I had a Pronto, until my baby son dropped it. The activities are cool, but the delay with some of my components make using the One a pain. Before, I could just toggle on the power and all would come on. Now I have to continue to point the One at the system to make sure all the components are on / off. When it misses one of the components, what a pain. It would be nice if it were more flexible or there was a way to configure any of the keys the way you wanted.

Try decreasing the delays of each device (under device > settings > adjust the delays). The default values are very conservative. Post #6 of this thread describes all the delays: [Link: remotecentral.com]

How many components (devices) do you have in each Activity? One of my Activities that has five devices takes only a couple of seconds to switch them all on. Being able to configure any of the keys was one of the main reasons why I switched to Harmonys. "Customise buttons", and the choice of power and other settings, let you do just that.

If your components respond to minimal delays with the Pronto then they can be setup the same way with the harmony. The delays are to ensure the devices don't get confused by other commands. You can set them all to 0 if your devices don't care.
