Everything was working fine, until I disconnected all my equipment to add a cabinet fan (which is now Z-wave controled-this thing rocks!) and hide some extra wires.

Now when I select "watch TV" which should only turn on the TV and cable box the receiver is turning on. The receiver device is not in the activity. And when I select off it will not turn off. FYI I do have a seperate Activity for watching TV with the Receiver. This one is for the kids, so when they wake up at 6 in the morning they don't wake us up.

This leads me to believe my Sony Xbr4 TV is sending a signal to turn on my Sony receiver. Probably through the HDMI cable. I did go into the TV settings and ensured the "power on other equipment" was set to OFF. However it still turns on the receiver. Now I can update the activity to include a step of "receiver power off" but that's just a work around and I want to resolve it correctly, as it worked find before this weekend.

Again I think this is a Sony issue. It is pretty cool what you can do without a universal remote, however now that I have one it should be the King and overrule the individual devices! Looks like I have a power struggle going on. The TV needs to realize the Harmony will win!

Other than the HDMI cable, was there any other changes you made to how your system was connected? Is the receiver's power cable plugged directly into the wall or a power bar? Or did you plug the power cable into your cable box? If you plugged it into the cable box, the cable box will automatically power on whatever is plugged into it.

OR

You most likely have Bravia Theater Sync enabled. Enabling this feature will cause the receiver to power on as well. Since both your TV and receiver are Sony. I would recommend disabling the Bravia Theater Sync. Since you have the Harmony, you don't need that feature.

Else, in the TV device mode, check the action of the TV power command(s) that is used in the TV Adjust power settings.

I think I figured it out. It was not the TV is was the Receiver. It was set to "TV + amp", so every time the TV turned on the Receiver also turned on. I changed it to "amp". I did not have time to check it. But I think this will solve it. Strange thing is the manual states that the default setting is "amp" only?? Oh well I am sure it would not be the first time there is an error in a user manual.

Perhaps the TV also has a setting which determines whether it sends the power on request or not and that got reset when you disconnected everything.

My TV does have HDMI control. Which is pretty cool if you don't have a Harmony. However even after turning the power on option to OFF, the receiver was still coming on. That's when it hit me this morning that the receiver also has a setting.

Man, even being an Engineer and reading the manuals on all my components this stuff still puzzles me sometimes.

My Onkyo 605 AV Receiver detects when the TV is turned on, and can then turn itself on.

Check the AV Receiver's settings, rather than the TV's.

I think it is a Sony Bravia Link issue. I did overcome the issue by adding the receiver to the TV actitivy (without receiver control) and then I added a "receiver off" command in it. Works fine. Seems like a work around, however I read on another somewhere that Sony equipment and the Harmony don't always get along together.

I will check the Receiver manual again to see if I misted something.
