My watch DVD 2 activity turns on my TV, and my Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player, but it is connected via HDMI, as the other 2 sets of component inputs are being used by the DVR and my Denon DVD player. Anyway, my Samsung HLP-5063 won't switch to HDMI inpput until it detects something there, and this Toshiba DVD player takes at least 30 seconds to boot up, and probably closer to a minute before the TV detects it, so even though I have told the remote to switch the TV to HDMI, it isn't, because of this long boot up, I'm sure. Is there a way around that? I've been told that this might be one of those things where I have to actually wait until the DVD player boots up, and then go into the device and manually switch it, which isn't a big deal, but thought maybe someone here knows a trick. Thanks!

Check if your Samsung HLP-5063 has an option to disable that stupid feature.

I did time it, and it is almost exactly 30 seconds, maybe more like 28 or 29 seconds, if you get technical. I'll see if that can be disabled. Might be in the service menu though, and I'm sure if it's cool to go into that. I've just heard you can screw things up, I don't know. I'll look around though. Otherwise it would be to delay powering the tv on for 30 seconds, right?

If the user feature exist, it would be under the HDMI control section.
Yes, you would have to set the TV power on delay to 30 seconds but that would also apply to all cold starting activities punishing all the innocents to praise the guilty. Another option would be to leave the Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player on all the time.

Yeah, forgot about that..........the delay is specific to the device, and that would not be good. Haven't found a way to do anything with that input yet.Guess I can't hurt anything trying to look in the service menu. I noticed a 'service menu' button in the TV device, but there isn't one on the oem remote...........I heard there was a code.

You don't have to go into the device; you can have the input command in the activity.
I have a sort of reverse of the situation: the DVD recorder won't change its sources until it's booted up, so I forget about setting the source automatically and have a "source" button in its activities.

Oh, you mean the customize buttons, or whatever that is? But, can the command be delayed?

He means map the command to a key in the activity itself so you can manually send it without having to go into device mode.

If your TV (Samsung HLP-5063) supports the discrete input selection (I think it does since its default input configuration uses the discrete method), then you could use the Activity Startup macro feature to send three 10 seconds delays followed by the discrete "InputHDMI1" command.

The Activity Startup feature becomes available when you review the activity (under Activity > Settings > Review the settings for this Activity) and select the option "Yes, but I want to add more control of options and devices for this Activity". Just click save/next a few times until you get to the custom Start/Leave action page configuration.

Cool, thanks! I kind of knew what hhatkin meant, I just said it wrong.....but that sounds like it would work. Thank you both! I'm assuming it will pretty self explanatory how to do this when I get there.

Let's say it OUGHT to work! The place to do it is quite easy to find, and it does give you the option to add the delays, 2sec, 5sec, etc, and then add the HDMI command.
However, that's the way I tried with my DVD recorder, and in practice it was unreliable, so I now use the method that I mentioned and jlet explained, of allocating the command to a key in the activity, and sending it manually when the TV is ready to accept it!

The problem is the 30 sec delay is needed only when the DVD startups, but the delay is needed for TV. Here is another idea where the 30 sec delay will only be invoked when needed.
1) Teach the TV "InputHDMI1" command to the DVD device. You will need another learning remote if the TV remote does not have a discrete HDMI button.
2) Set the Power On delay of the DVD device to 30 sec. This means after sending the power up command to the DVD, it won't send it any more command until that delay has expired.
3) In the DVD activity startup macro, select the DVD device (not the TV) and add the learnt "InputHDMI1" command. Don't need to add any delay here.

So on a DVD startup, the "InputHDMI1" command will be sent (for the DVD device) 30 seconds after the DVD power up command. On regular activity switching where the DVD is already on, the DVD activity will also send the "InputHDMI1" command but without the 30 sec delay. This won't hurt anything since it's a discrete command and that is the TV input you want anyway.

Well, my TV remote doesn't have a discrete HDMI button, just a source button, which I'm sure, is no help.

It certainly is no help!
But don't despair - there are probably codes out there somewhere that can give you discrete inputs.

His TV database has discrete inputs. He just needs another learning remote to teach one of the TV discrete input to his DVD payer.
