Have been using this remote for about 2 weeks and like it very much. Upgraded from 659 and find it easier to use. Have 2 questions that I dont know if they can be set up. First I would like to have the Closed Captioning come on when I hit the mute button. I have a Direct TV HR-21. I know that CC can be set to on in the menu system of the DVR but then it stays on all the time. Can this remote be programmed to do that command in the menu system? Second I know that this DVR does not let you hit the down button and switch from one tuner to the next. Is there a way to program the remote to switch between the 2 tuners or is this a built in problem of the DVR?

You can apparently thank Tivo for that one. Tivo has a patent that prevents DirecTV from being able to actively switch between 2 tuners. So you only have user control of one tuner - the other one is used by the system to record or download content.
You can get around it by recording both shows and using the List to access each one first, then you can use the prev button to switch back and forth. Although I've had trouble getting both programs to stay paused where I left them. It seems like one does it and one doesn't. It's quirky. I just gave up my SD DirecTivo for a second HR20-700 and I've basically had to adjust my viewing habits to the HR20.
I keep hoping one day Dish and DirecTV will merge and then license Tivo for all their boxes to compete with the cable companies (Comcast already licenses Tivo).

akirby, that's actually just a common myth that TiVo's patents prevent dual tuner buffering on the DIRECTV PLUS receivers. This has been discussed in several large threads at dbstalk.com in the DIRECTV HR20 forum, with posts from moderators with DIRECTV contacts. (See threads discussing DLB - Dual Live Buffers.) The reason there's no DLB is simply that DIRECTV didn't build it in because they have "larger plans" that DLB would interfere with.
The workaround that is described is a step in the right direction, but we're still hopeful we'll see DLB someday.
