Samsung LN-T4661f 46" LCD HDTV
Sony BDP-S300 Blu-Ray Player
Motorola DCT-3416 DVR (Comcast)
Yamaha RXV-496 Home Theater Receiver
Samsung DVD-R120 Recorder

for some reason whenrever i press watch tv my tv goes to the wrong input
i have the following inputs used on my tv
hdmi1 - lcdtv
hdmi2 - cable box
component1 - dvd recorder
component2 - wii game system
for some reason "Cable" even though not used on my tv as an input comes up when source is pressed on original remote, i think either this or the speed settings in my harmony setup are messing everything up. any idea what to do?

If you select the tv input by cycling through the list (as opposed to one command that goes directly to that input) then you must make sure the list of inputs in the harmony exactly matches the list of inputs in the tv menu - same number in the same order (labels don't matter). Otherwise the harmony thinks it's on one input when it's on another.

This all depends on your TV and whether it supports discrete input commands. If your OEM remote allows you to press one button and go directly to each input then you're all set. Or even if the OEM remote doesn't have them sometimes they are available in the harmony command list - just try any command that looks like an input selection and see what happens.

Each device has an Adjust Inputs link where you tell the harmony how that device selects the inputs. Then, for each activity you tell it which input to use for each device and the harmony figures out how to get there (dynamically).

ok so hear me out and help if possible.
lets say in the harmony remote setup there is a "input hdmi1" for example. lets say i set that up on my remote and it works fine by going directly to the hdmi1 on my particular tv. how would i then make it so in an activity (watch tv for example) my remote would use that input to go direclty to hdmi1 by using that input hdmi1 command?

This is how I did it on my JVC TV:

In "device mode", check the soft keys on the remote for the TV to see if there are discreet input codes in the database even though the original remote doesn't have them. Lo and behold, there were, and they weren't named the same as the inputs were named on the TV itself. So - 1) in the "type of input" page in the software setup for the Harmony remote, select discrete inputs, even though the original remote doesn't have individual input buttons (just an input "scrolling" button), and 2) rename the inputs to correspond with what is in the Logitech Database (InputTuner, InputVideo1, InputVideo2, InputVideo3, Input4 (yes, that one is different) and Input Digital In) and its now working perfectly.

I just told you - go to the TV device in the harmony setup software and select Adjust Inputs. There you have a choice of how the TV selects inputs. In this case you want "I go directly to the input I want". Then you either choose the input labeled HDMI 1 or create one if it's not there and tell it to use the hdmi1 command.

Then when you create the activity, you tell it to use the TV device and input HDMI 1 and the harmony makes it happen.

Logitech's database thinks your TV has 11 separate (discrete) inputs as option 2.
Samsungs usually have just one button on the remote to cycle between the inputs that are in use - four in your case - so you will need to tell that to the Logitech software as option 1.

There's an option to skip inputs that are not connected to anything.

Mrfizzed, many device brands support discrete commands even if they are not on the original remote. The Harmony dataset for your Samsung LN-T466IF TV has many discrete input commands. The dataset goes by brand rather than by specific model, thus it may contain more commands than the ones supported by your specific model.

First, try all the input commands in device mode paying attention to their behaviour (toggle/cycling vs discrete action). If you found discrete input commands supported by your TV, then reconfigure the device Adjust Input to use the discrete method (Method 2 which is the default for your TV). After selecting Method 2, you will see a list of inputs. These are the input Labels - not the commands yet. You can edit those (add/remove, rename). Since you are using the discrete method, the order is NOT important. You don't need to delete unused inputs, but you should delete non-existing inputs for your particular TV model. After you click next, this is where you assign a discrete command to each input Label. The input Labels are on the left, and their associated Commands are on the right. Make sure you select the correct command (from the drop-down list) that worked correctly when you tested it in device mode. Now you are ready to create/modify your activities. The activity wizard will ask for the input Label name (not the command name).

Note: You should also reconfigure the device Adjust Power to use the discrete method (a button for each instead of one button for both) if your TV supports the discrete PowerOn and PowerOff commands (test them in device mode).

If your TV does respond to Logitech's discrete commands, you're lucky - you can forget cycling!
My Tosh will only cycle and it never cycles properly, despite all Logitech's efforts to persuade it - it's almost ready to go to the wall!
