I have an 880 and a dish network ViP722 DVR. The remote will not work with this box on a regular basis. There is nothing obstructing the IR, my other remotes work as expected. After spending countless hours with DN representatives they said there is something in the room that is causing interference. I have turned off all lights, ceiling fan, etc no luck.

The remote works on another TV, so I know it is not broken.

Any ideas?

Try increasing the "Number of Repeats" (now nameless) under Device > Settings > Troubleshoot > "xx responds to some commands either too many times or only occasionally".

No luck, I can get the 880 to work with every device but the 722. When I use the original Dish IR remote I need to be very close for it to work. If I use UHF it works as it should.

I have a SamsungLN-S4692D, not sure if that makes a difference.

Thanks,

Sounds like the IR receiver on the 722.

Is there anything I can do to extend the IR? DN says there is nothing wrong with the unit, there is interference in my room.

Do you have a plasma display?

LCD TVs and Compact Fluorescent (CF) lights can also cause IR interference. You can confirm the source by turning off the CF lights and/or the LCD TV. On LCD TV, it often stops once the TV has been on for a while. If it's the TV, try placing the 722 further back/away from the TV to hide it from the stay IR.

Doesn't seem reasonable that IR interference would affect the 722 but not the other components, but I guess it's possible. Try putting a cardboard tube in front of the IR receiver on the 722 and see if that improves it. If not then I'd say it has to be the 722. If that does fix it then it probably is interference.

Some IR receivers may have a better "sense of humor" with stray IR.

I didn't realize LCDs were a problem. I thought it was just plasma.

No luck, I turned off all the lights and moved the ViP722 as far as I could. The orginal IR remote works at different angles/distances from the Vip722

Please clarify what you mean by "on a regular basis"
Does it work sometime
did it work at any time in the past; once????

I have another problem. Initially, my harmony worked with the dish receiver. Over the course of time, the dish remote started to malfunction (couple of keys died) and I got a new dish remote. The new remote had to be 'set up' to work with the dish receiver. The harmony stopped controlling the dish receiver after that. Digging around the various forums and blogs, my understanding is that the remote and receiver must have the same 'identifier' in the IR signal. If they are out of sync, the receiver will not respond to the remote. I suspect this is why my old dish remote will no longer control the receiver. You may have the same problem.

Your quote from another post

Do you have new batteries in the dish ir remote? The dish remote is quite powerful and should easily work at about 20'.
If you have to go down to 5' for the dish remote to work, I agree, you may have a bad ir receiver in your 722.

I tried the cardboard and no luck. But I was told to "teach" the remote the IR commands from the DN remote. I did so, with the TV off. When I used the Dish PVR device, the power button on my TV blinked. I moved the 722 away from the TV but still no luck. How far away does it have to be?

No lights were turned on, and it was cloudy so no sun interference.

[ Does it work sometime did it work at any time in the past; once???? ]

The DN IR remote will work when I am five inches away from the Vip-722. Occasionally it will work when I am several feet away but there really isn't a rhyme or reason why.

Since leaving Off all potential IR interfering devices (like CF lights and TV) confirmed it's NOT an IR interference problem, and you also have trouble with the original remote, then it must be a faulty 722 IR receiver.
