Hello,

I picked up a Harmony One yesterday. Charged it and started programming it. This is my only experience with a universal remote other that what has come with OEM equipment. The programming seems to be very easy and straight forward, however, when I see posts here it is obvious that people have tapped into more flexibility in the Harmony remotes. I did not find this very intuitive in the software. I am refering to things such as changing timings, adding an icon, adding a non std activity. Is there tutorials available anywhere or manuals?

Thank you,

Anthony

There are manuals!

1) Login to your Harmony One Account.
2) In the Yellow Tip Center section to the right of the screen, Click the Yellow "More Help" button.
3) Click the "Manuals" tab.
4) Click the "User Manuals" link.

There's also a forum on the Logitech website (under support).

First thing I would do is get all of your devices in. The just focus on each device one at a time getting all of the buttons you want on the device and delete ones that are in the database and on your remote that you don't need/want.

I understand what you mean by the software to be not straight forward but I believe they put some of those settings away from the general users eye to keep people from having problems with programming. Logitech pretty much has it set as in delays times and work fine. Thats where the tweaker comes in a wants his remote fine tuned.

Most of those settings your talking about are located under the devices you want and then either "customize buttons" or speed "settings".

You don't need to edit the Device Button mapping for each device except maybe the Sound and Display devices since the "One" is missing the Sound and Picture Buttons. Editing the Device Button mapping is very tedious since by default it's pre-configured with all the commands for that brand. The device mode should be used only for testing, troubleshooting or accessing seldom used commands. You can map any command from any participating device to any activity key using the Activity > Customize Buttons.

However, for each device, you should test all the commands paying attention to their behaviour (toggling/cycling vs discrete action) to find easter egg commands (like discrete power and input commands) that are not on the original remote. Armed with this info, configure the device power and input settings. Use the discrete method if you found the discrete commands. Then create your activities making sure you select the correct device and its input for each function (volume control, tuner, etc). The activity, by default, will assign the Volume keys to the sound device, the channel keys to the tuner device, etc. Finlay, check and/or modify the Activity > Customize Buttons.

You will find the Harmony programming interface quite infantile. It was designed for every one making it annoying for power user but you will get used to it. Just don't be afraid to experiment and try all the options/features so you know where they are in case you need to access one of them in the future. In general, all the device parameters are found under Device > Settings. The "Number of Repeats" (now nameless) is found under Device > Settings > Troubleshoot > "xx responds to some commands either too many times or only occasionally".
