Hello All,

Hopefully someone here will be able to help me resolve this!

I have a Logitech Harmony 880 universal remote. TV is a Sceptre 42".

I had added activities to use my DVR (sa 8300HD), PC, and PS3. I just tried to add one to change input to my Wii.

Unfortunately, "AV2" was not present in the input menu. I added it - but this has cause many problems now.

The issue is that my Sceptre TV has two video inputs:

Input Video
Input PC

Input video will cycle between: Cable (analog), AV1, AV2, Component1

Input PC will cycle between DTV (OTA HD), HDMI, HDCP, DVI, VGA, Component2

Previously - before I added AV2, The Logitech was able to switch between all inputs properly. This also included Component1 - so it did know there was "something" in place of AV2 - but it just was not there. It would also go right to HDMI or VGA (PS3, PC) without an issue.

Once I added AV2 - I no longer have a "split input" video setup. The harmony wants to know which of the 4 methods I use to select my inputs.

Method 1 (input cycle) is HALF there, but I cannot select a second set. It will attempt to use either Input Video or Input PC to select the right input - but it never will.

Method 2 (direct) will not work, as I do not have direct input control.

Method 3 (menu, scroll, select) will not work as I cannot do that.

Method 4 (input, direct) will also not work.

How does Logitech expect me to set this up? Like I had said, it worked previous to me adding AV2 - an input I needed.

I'm almost afraid that at this point I will need to restore all defaults and start fresh. Has anyone come across this issue?

What is the model number of your TV?
Did you try all the commands in device mode?
Many devices support discrete commands although they may not be on the original remote.
If you have to use the cycling method, check if the "InputNext" command can cycle through all inputs.
If you have to use 2 cycling commands, then add another TV device. Decide which of the 2 devices will be the main device. The other one will be the clone. Set the input settings of one device to do the Input video cycling and the other device to do the Input PC cycling. Use Method 1 for both. Don't forget to answer the questions correctly (does it skip over inputs, and does it stay or goto a particular input on power up). Set the power settings of the clone device to "There are no power buttons". The main device will be used to control power. For activities using the inputs of the clone device, add the main device using the activity add device feature by selecting option "Yes, I want to add more control..." in the activity wizard or activity review, and tell it you don't need to set input on your added device (Main TV device).

It's quite likely that the original Device profile for your TV had a custom input selection script/routine written by tech support. They quite often have to do this for TVs with oddball input switching methods that don't match any of the standard options. I had to get them to do this for my TV, and the solution they come up with becomes the standard profile for anyone who subsequently adds the same device to their setup. Tech support have access to much more advanced programming than we do as end users.

When you added the extra input it would have "overwritten" this custom script, leaving you with one of the standard 4 options (which obviously won't work).

You will need to phone tech support and get them to re-do the original script, or come up with a new routine for your particular set up. You will need level 2 or 3 tech support (in Canada) to do this.

Thank you both for the reply!

jlet, While i've thought of that - it's a very nasty hack. It may work...but not something i'd really like to do.

czzer, I'm going to remove my TV from the logitech and I guess i'll just use AV1 input.

Do your remember calling Support about the special script (mentioned by Czzer)?
Try deleting then adding the TV back. Maybe the new device will have the special script.

You don't need to remove the device or not use the other AV input. Just phone tech support and get them to change the setup so it works properly...they don't bite!

jlet, the script was probably done for another user with the same TV. Once tech support gets confirmation a particular setup works for a device, they update the Device profile for all users who add the same device in the future.

Fcisler, here another idea not requiring a clone. It's called a pseudo discrete sequencing but it hinges on one cycler resetting the other. Try these 2 tests (using your original remote or the Harmony remote in device mode):
1) Press the "InputPC" command repeatedly until you are on the 2nd input (HDMI) of its cycling list. Now press the "InputVideo" command, then press the "InputPC" command only once. Is your TV on the 1st input (DTV) of the "InputPC" cycling list? If so, proceed to the second test.
2) Press the "InputVideo" command repeatedly until you are on the 2nd input (AV1) of its cycling list. Now press the "InputPC" command, then press the "InputVideo" command only once. Is your TV on the 1st input (Cable) of the "InputVideo" cycling list?

If the answer is yes for both tests, then you can use the pseudo discrete sequencing technique via the Activity Start Macro feature. For example, the Activity Start sequence would look like this for an activity using the AV2 input: "InputPC, InputVideo, InputVideo, InputVideo", and like this for lets say an activity using the HDMI input: "InputVideo, InputPC, InputPC".

Important: With this technique, would will have to remove all inputs in the Device > Adjust Input Settings. When you do that, the activity wizard will no longer ask what input to use for your TV device. It's too bad that the Device Adjust Input Settings Method 2 no longer supports multiple commands (sequence). That is why you have to use the Activity Start sequence.

Note: The Activity Start sequence feature becomes available when you select the option "Yes, but I want to add more control of options and devices for this Activity" in the Activity Wizard or in the "Review the settings for this Activity".

jlet,

Yes...the input starts cycling on the first...the only issue with your setup would be if i were on say, AV2 - and it tried to cycle to component...I guess I could have it cycle to PC then to video.

I removed the TV and re-added...i'll be calling tech support once I get a chance.

Thank you both very much!

Yes, the proposed dual cycling method is not efficient because I assume you can't find a single cycling command like "InputNext" that would cycle through all the inputs allowing the Smart State to track it. I still don't know the model of your Sceptre TV (42 is not a model but a size). I also assume you tried all the commands in device mode.

Fcisler, I checked the Sceptre model "X-42SV-Naga" (in my configuration), and sure enough (like Czzer said), it uses a custom input selection script/routine. In its dataset, I can see the following special commands:
o SetInputType PC
o SetInputType AV
o SetPCInput xx list (DTV,HDMI,HDPV,DVI,VGA,YPbPr2)
o SetAVInput xx list (Tuner,AV1,AV2,YPbPr1)
Note that for this model, the AV2 is present, and all the inputs are listed in the order you provided. I don't know what your particular model is but I bet if you use this "X-42SV-Naga" model, it will work. Just don't edit the device input settings (it uses a custom one).

As mentioned by Czzer in post 6 above, you probably should have phone support first instead of trying to fix it yourself, but now at least you know better (insight is always 20/20).

Hi,

I just bought a Harmony 880 remote. I am having a tough time getting my Sceptre TV 42" configured. After "Learning" the Sceptre remote, Harmony claims it is similar to SunBrite TV. But, I need to be able to configure HDMI1 and HDMI2 as two different inputs and Harmony does not let me do that.

Also, the Harmony does not seem to be able to manage my DirectTV HDDVR+ receiver.
Any ideas?

Thanks

Here we go again. What is the model number of your Sceptre TV? 42" is not a model but a size. If your model is similar to "X-42SV-Naga", then see post #10 above.

Hey all, I am in the same boat here. My parents have the X37SV-Naga and this thing is a pain in the ***.

Method 1 of inputs obviously does not work being that there are 2 input selectors, it should work with 'cloning' the TV but its pretty sketchy doing that, only works sometimes.

Method 2 should be the answer, there are functions like SetAVInputAV1 and SetPCInputDTV, yet these really just seem to cycle being that they are about 50% successful if that.

Has anyone figured this out? I tried to phone support but they were closed and I wont have a chance to call them during business hours tomorrow, hopefully I can find time on Tuesday.

Thanks
