Ok I have done extensive work reviewing the harmony 890 (it's been slowat work). This remote seems to be the holy grail of remotes and will sovle many of my problems.

The big issue: how to I convince my wife that we need to buy it now? She has said yes but wants to wait until April (my b-day).

Now that I know what the remote can do I hate using my current cable,TV, receiver and DVD remotes. Although I must say I am pretty impressed with what the cable company's (scientific altantic) remote can do.

Every time I decide to listen to TV through the receiver and I have to turn down the TV volume, Hit "aux" on the remote, turn on the receiver, change the imput "cable" and go through all the steps I think about how easy it will be with the harmony. Site is also an issue, the remote sometimes works at the table and sometimes does not. The RF feature of the 890 will be a great investment.

Should I just go out and buy it, program it and show the Mrs how easy it is - and then ask for forgiveness? How do you convince your other half that spending 300 bucks for a remote was worth it?

The remote is great & my wife loves it. I have an 890 PRO which I bought from Crutchfield for $299 with a free wireless extender. I think the free extender offer might be gone now, but the 890 non-Pro is still available from Amazon with the extender included. The differences between the Pro & non-pro models are slight- Pro is black while non-Pro is silver and the pro adds picture & sound buttons. Even if you don't have concealed components, the rf extender is great because you don't have to aim the remote at all.

You can still get a free zwave lamp module if you get an 890. ([Link: zwaveproducts.com]). You just have to e-mail them for the current promo code & pay about $12 for shipping. They never asked me to prove my purchase. With this module my lights dim differently for different activities which my wife also digs. Z-wave is still supported by the 890's.

Setup is straight forward, but not quite perfect. I could not sync my remote at first & it took a lengthy call to logitech support & a software patch, but I have not had a problem with the remote since & I have tweaked it quite a bit in the month I have been using it. There are a few features here & there that could be improved by Logitech, but it beats juggling the dozen remotes cluttering up your viewing room any day of the week. You can even add two pages of favorite channel icons under the media button. Channel icons available at [Link: squareworld.com]

As for the price... I think it is totally worth it & I think your wife will agree.

You can show your wife remotes from RTI, they go for around $2K each.

The Free Zwave module offer is still good, www.zwaveproducts.com

Yes.

I do Home Theater for a living and the look of joy on wive's faces when they grasp how to work it in 3 seconds makes me grin myself.

Honestly...the Harmony remotes are the only products I have ever sold where customers will go out of their way to call me back and thank me.
