I thought it might be time for this and started an email discussion group for the Harmony Remote tonight. Following is the first message. Please feel free to join in and forward this invitation to anyone you think might have an interest.

*****************************************************
In the early days, I had quite good communication established with Harmony as a beta tester. More recently, this communciation has tailed off and I can only assume that they have been swamped with the public introduction of the product. The Remote Central discussions haven't quite taken off as well as I would have hoped and there really isn't one central depository of knowledge on this product anywhere I can find. The "What's New" section of the Harmony web site was last updated on October 21st!

I love my Harmony, but still feel that I am only part of the way there in gaining all of the functionality possible wth the device although I might be as much as 90% there at this time. And all too often, I stumble across changes that Harmony has made to the web site or new or changed features that just aren't announced anywhere. Consequently, I thought this email group might be a good idea for us to share our successes and problems and to note changes that have occurred with the product, the web site or the device programming.

For examples, have you noticed the change button functions under activities/utility? Or the Generic Activity? Have you been able to activate Navigation buttons *anywhere* you desire? Are your cable channel listings complete or missing just a few?

Hopefully this group will help us all get a little closer to our goals with system control. Please feel free to pass this along to anyone who might be interested in joining. Group information is as follows:

Group name :

Bob: excellent idea. You're right, Harmony info is a little slow these days. Maybe this will help to goose things. ... Mike

Thanks, Mike.

The ranks are slowly growing there, so come by and join us. I have invited the Harmony team and they are supportive of the idea. Hopefully they will also be along shortly.

Just go by the group home page listed above and sign yourself up. Its easy and quick.

Without the harmony people also on this list it would be no better than any other form of communication. At least this site has harmony people lurking on it.

Well, Eric, that's kind of negative.

I'll take the liberty of quoting on of the users on the email list:

"Why here is actually a very good question. I monitor remotecentral but not very frequently. For something like the harmony I think I find it more convenient to use email as an interface than the web browser. Sort of the difference between "push" and "pull" content. I'm more involved when stuff comes to me rather than having to seek it out myself all the time. Probably
a lame excuse but there it is."

I don't expect or desire the email group to take the place of the RC Forum. I'm still here as well, obviously. But it is another means of communicating, uploading photos or even ezm files to see how other folks use their device. Of course, your mileage may vary.

And Harmony did sign on today, so they will be receiving the content and comments from the group.

New information posted today includes an announcement from Harmony on new Channel ID and Add Channels features that just went live on their website. Also new limited channels available (Favorites) for PVR devices.

I've tried finishing up my Cable Channel Line-up and found a few interesting things about stations that appear on more than one channel # and the like, but in general, I feel this is the first time I have a channel listing line-up that works for me. Good news!

I'll let the Harmony folks post their own announcment here as they have told me they intend to announce new features both here and on the email group ([Link: groups.yahoo.com]), but since I didn't see the posting here yet I thought I'd let you in on the news.

This looks like the one for me.
QUESTION: These 52 year old eyes have a difficult time reading LCD screens, is the one on the Harmony sharp and backlit?
Thanks!
Marc

Thank you Bob, I've been looking for a remote for some time and this one impressed me. It's more money that I thought I would spend, but I spent it because it looks unique among the competition. Simplicity is important to me.

Thanks for responding in such a timely manner.

Just a head's up that Yahoo Groups seem to be down this morning. It is not just the harmonyremotes group. I have sent them email asking for an ETA.

If you are unable to post there, please try again later.

Thanks.

Bob, let me guess: you were in the military? I was in the USAF, and "ate up" was a common term then (25+ yrs ago).

Nope Larry. No military other than some USO tours in Germany when I was a musician in a past life 8^)

Oh, now I get it: it's not "ate up", it's a face, seen at an angle. D-oh!
