I have a Harmony 895, and I have been trying to update the remote and RF extender, but everytime I do, it gives me the error message:
Java Error -- Context: (None) -- 1 Parameters: java.lang.NullPointerException
I spoke to Logitech who said it "might" be a problem with their servers, but couldn't give a definate answer and just said keep trying over the next day or so!
Has anyone had this error and solved it? If so how? I've googled it and can't find too much info.

I have been playing with this all weekend, and I seem to have found where the problem lies by trial and error and a process of elimination. If I set the remote to control all devices then it works fine, but when I set the extender to control all devices, then that is when I get the error. So I set each device to be controlled by the extender one by one until I found the problem. It seems to lie with my Pioneer VSX-1015 AV reciever which is the only device I can't get to be controlled by the extender. Every time I set the AV receiver to be controlled by the extender I get the Java error above when I try to update it.Does anyone have any idea as to why this might be?

I have the same issue with a Yamaha RXV2700. According to Tier 2 Harmony, the 2700 language is so large it simply will not fit onto the extender as I have it configured. They have the same issue with a Panasonic device. They believe the next firmware release will fix it, but it was due Feb 1. The workaround is to control via IR. This is extremely disappointing as we have about 4 2700's with Harmony's in the pipeline for install. FYI, the 2700 is very robust with XM, iPod Zone 2&3, internet, usb, pc ,etc. Is your similarly capable?

Mine doesn't seem to have quite as much on offer as the 2700, but still probably the largest amount of commands of any single device I have. However I only regularly use the volume, inputs and power on/off commands on it (all the other functions are set up already and I don't have any need to access them on a day to day basis) so is there any way to reduce the amount of commands to this basic set so it will fit on the extender?

As I understand it, not really by us. You might experiment with the option " setup device based on similar device". It might find a smaller command set that would work. I didn't try this since I'm stuck needing to support all the capabilities.

Ooops, I guess you can thank me for that since I had Harmony add about 50 commands to the RX-V2700 device. Than again, Harmony themselves said it's a bug in their firmware so I won't take the full blame!

FWIW, you might want to try the RX-V1700 device instead since I believe it shares the same IR command set and I didn't tell Harmony to add the commands to the RX-V1700.

Thanks for that, I originally had mine set up as a Pioneer VSX-1015 AV reciever. Based on your advice, I tried changing it to an amplifier instead of AV reciever (I never use the tuner anyway!) and used the model number VSX-1015-S (same model number just silver!) and hey presto it all works!

I setup my first 2700 in December and it failed then also - even when it had only a portion of the command set.. Back then it was more of a nuisance in that it would send several commands fine then lock up. You could do maybe 2 or 3 activities before failure. I spent 3 or 4 hours on the phone with tech support trying to isolate the problem. Still waiting for the firmware fix.
