Hello all~

I've recently purchased the Harmony remote for the Xbox360 and am using it to control my Samsung LN4051D LCD TV.

Has anyone had any luck using this (or any of the Harmony remotes) to directly control Game Mode on/off? Having to go through the menu to do it is a pain.

Is this something to cross-post in the Discrete Codes section as well?

Thanks everyone!
Great Forum!

Sure!

The Game Mode is actually a mode on the Samsung LCD (nominally helps with game visuals). To turn it on, one has to go through the TV menu (no button on the original remote to turn it on). I was hoping that I would be able to use the Harmony to directly activate the Samsung's Game Mode, but I haven't had any luck so far.

i see now. my jvc lcd has a similar game video mode that is accessed from a single video status button. i don't believe i can change my tv to the video game setting with the harmony remote without it cycling through all the video mode settings. in other words, there's no discrete code for video game mode.
however, my tv remembers which video mode i have for each video input. so i have my xbox 360 component going into the video 3 input (set to the tv's game video mode) and my dvd and dvr on a switcher into input 1 (set to standard video mode). i don't know if the samsung set has the same feature but it might be worth a try.

There are a couple of ways to deal with this. One is to issue the appropriate commands to your TV on to change to game mode on entering the Play Game activity and to change it back on leaving that activity. This generally works well, but if it gets out of sync, then you can't use the Help function to fix it.

Another approach is to define a fictional TVModeSwitcher device. Then you can make its "inputs" the different display modes for your TV, and define the TVs mode change commands as its commands for changing input. Then just add this device to all of your activities that use the TV device.
