Its tough being the new kid on the block, even tougher being the new kid with the new toy. I am hoping there is enough simularity among remotes that you more experienced folks are familiar with to be able to help me out.

My activity "Watch digital cable" is comprised of a Motorola DCT-3412I digital cablebox/Pvr and a Sony KDL-V40XBR LCD flat screen. The activity screen shot is,

On the left side of the screen note the page and up/down arrows are lit, tthe "Live TV" is not. What really bothers me ist that "Live TV" was lit and operated the first time I programmed the remote. When I first lost "Live TV" I had not played with the button customizations. As for the button customizations,

All the selection buttons show except for "Live TV" The transport buttons are all further down and fully assignable. The "Live TV" selection is selectable and assigns as an extra button,

All other functions work as they should, other than this one issue I really like the remote. I am really surprised it does not have a clock. I am new to this but will be happy to answer questions or within reason try suggestions and and report how they work.

I was originally looking at URC-950 and 3000. The URCs seemed to be beyond my capability as a beginner. I am afraid this this unit is only going to whet my taste more.

I have submitted this support request to Logitech twice and have yet to hear from them.

One last note, that is not a rat on my background. Elliott is my sister's Oriental Short Hair cat and he is about 16 weeks old in these shots.

Hi,

I am waiting on this one to come in, hopefully today or tomorrow! Looks so cool. I am not sure of what the problem is but would definitely suggest calling phone support, they seem to know their gear very well and I'm sure can help you.

The clock baffles me as this image show a clock...?

Enjoy

Ok, I have received a response from Logitech. My problem is a firmware issue which will be corrected in a new firmware release to be released Feb 1. This is the only bug I have encountered so far. Looks to me like they did their homework and intend to back it up with support.

Hi Fixler,

Please get your's tomorrow. Its lonesome here. I thought I'd seen a clock somewhere. Maybe the firmware upgrade will address this. Get the EXACT model numbers of all your equipment and know how all your inputs are routed. You will need this info to set up your customization.

I was on the phone also with support reguarding the clock issue. They said that it will be added in a future firmware update. No date was given.

I cant get for the life of me the side selection buttons to activate like Feslope did.

My default buttons in the setup do not show MENU - GUIDE - INFO- EXIT.

Level 2 support closes at 8PM EST in canada. Will call them in the morning

Feslope,

I just purchased my 1000 buthave not received it yet and i cant wait. What kind of favorite channels funciton does it have? Does it show channel icons? A list? Could you post some more pics of other screens and features? I cant seem to find any, anywhere!

Thanks,

The 2nd photo is interesting ....

On the other harmony remotes it is possible to assign commands from multiple devices in an activity to a single button. So you can, for example, have the play button start your DVD playing and also dim the lights.

However in the photo it looks like you can only assign a command from a single device on the 1000. Is this correct or have I miss-interpreted the photo?

Hi Pete,

I have not tried the favorite channels function yet. I know you can load 20 of your own icon/images, I don't know if it provides you a list. I believe the downloads section of this forum has icons that fit the exact spec.

I am going to take a bunch of pictures in the next day or two and create an album. I will post the link to the album and everyone can view. With an album on a server I can add to it easily and make other changes. Posting extensive pictures in this forum is tedious and as long as I am using the server space anyway an album is a better way to go.

The second photo was showing an "Activity" menu. You can assign commands to any button as long as the device is included in the activity. The activity page shown included my cablebox and TV only. I do not see a way to assign multiple commands to a single button.

When you begin an activity you have certain options available to your devices included it the activity depending on the device. With AV devices it will turn them on and select the suitable output and or input, these are selectable choices and not customizable options. The final answer to this question, I am not far enough along to really give a definative answer. I hope this makes sense.

Well, i got my 1000 today and it doesn't work. It wont let me do anything but pick a language and go through the tutorial. over and over and over. It doesn't recognize that its connected to a computer and I also cant power it off. I have an email into Logitech. What a bummer. I couldn't wait for this thing to arrive.

Did you install the software first before plugging in the remote? Is it running thru that off the charger? Thanks Michael

I'm having the same problem...

I have a Scientific Atlantic 8300HD set-top box which functions both as a digital cable box AND a DVR. Those side selection buttons do not show up under my "Watch TV" activity, but do show under the "Watch DVR" activity that I created (I had to add the 8300HD again as a "DVR" device for this).

It's strange, I get more TV functionality and button options on the Harmony1000 when the 8300HD is set as a DVR device, rather than a set-top device...

So I'm thinking the workaround may be - to get those side buttons displayed - is to rename the "Watch DVR" activity to "Watch TV" and tweek the buttons from there...

I just tried this and it's working out - I have full control of both the tv/set-top and DVR at the same time - I have all the buttons on the screen. It's too bad you need to "trick" the remote this way, but it works.

I really hope that Logitech updates the software soon to reflect the unique interface of the Harmony 1000, rather than the same old software that's also being used for the 880/890's... I used to own an 880 and am finding the 1000 to be slightly more buggy so far.

And yes, I realize it's "just a clock", but I want that on my screen, as in the photos they use to advertise it!! Hoping that firmware update comes soon...

Hmmm, I'm very disappointed in my 1000 so far...

Compared to the 880, it seems so much more "buggy", more of a beta release that was shipped out too early. I found the 880 to be a little quirky too, but for the price, you could tolerate it. With the 1000 costing hundreds more, those quirks are less easy to swallow.

My beef with the 880 was too many buttons - exactly the opposite of the 1000, which I feel there are not enough hard buttons. I don't like having to navigate through the pages/screens to access the other functions on the 1000.

Been tweaking the 1000 and having the hardest time getting the device delays all sync'ed up. I used the same exact delay times that I had programmed into my 880 (which worked perfect) but they aren't working out with the 1000. My AV receiver now has problems switching to correct input, as does my TV. These things worked fine with the 880 under the same settings. So I'm guessing something is up with the firmware of the 1000, I can't understand why else it's not working the right way.

I'm gonna try a few more things and see if I can get things going with the 1000 - if not, I'm going to take it back, exchange it for the 880. I just can't justify spending $450 on a remote that dosn't work properly.

I figured the 1000 might be a little buggy at first. So far I have two major issues which hopefully firmware upgrades will correct. The issues are, functionality of an on screen button and lack of a clock. I am really dissapointed in the missing clock as it is shown in all advertising and pre release documents.
