Hi,

I just purchased a 360 Harmony Remote and I want to be able to keep the remote in a "Watch TV" state at all times - even after I power everything off. I have kids who always maunually turn on the TV and the receiver and I just want to be able to pick up the remote and control the volume or the TV without pressing the "Watch TV" activity. Is there any way to do this with Harmony remotes?

Thanks.

What I normally do in that case is put my hand in front of the ir emitter on the remote and then press the Watch TV activity button and wait for all the IR to be transmitted before removing my hand. The harmony then assumes it has switched everything on and to the correct input and will operate normally. If the kids then switch off the TV and the harmony thinks everything is on, do the same with your hand and press the power button.

Thanks for the reply but I already do that. I want the Harmony remote to always be "on" without selecting an activity or device.

Put the Harmony Remote lower down so the kids can use it ;-)

I showed my kids how to use my H659 when they were 3, and they now know not to use the manual controls.

Do not leave Watch TV-activity and you will be always in it :)
To power on/off tv and receiver add new commands to lcd or assign them to hard buttons.

Cement all the mode keys except "Watch TV".

This is actually a good idea. I can't believe I can't leave it in one default state though.

If you've managed to track down discrete on/off commands for your TV and receiver you shouldn't have a problem.

If the kids have already turned the TV on and you want to:

1) Start watching the TV. Simply press the "Watch TV" activity - it should send the discrete "on" command - which won't do anything as the TV is already on. You can now control the TV as you want it.

2) Turn the TV off. Assuming the Harmony is in the 'off' state, press the "Help" button, this should send the discrete "off" command to the TV to switch it off.
