I had dropped by 880 on a hard floor and cracked the glass above the LCD. I called Logitech to ask them how much the repair was and they basically said it would be $50 and said they would include the improved charger.

Here is where the bad news comes in at least for me.

There support is in Canda and they do accept UPS. I was going to try to FEDEX it to them but Fedex wanted roughly 60 bucks for ground service. I can buy one new on ebay for 139.00. The only other option was USPS. I sent it 4 weeks ago USPS and Logitech says they haven't received it. Logitech says it could be held up in customs. This is hard to believe. I do have a customs form receipt but apparently it does nothing as far as being able to track the package.

At this point, I beleive I am out a expensive remote. I do not like the fact that Logitech sells so many of their remotes in the US and then requires you to send it back and make you declare a value of $10.00. That remote retails for well over $200.00.

At this point if I do not get my remote back, I will NEVER purchase another logitech remote until they get support out of the states. I really think should be illegal for them to force you declare the value of $10.00.

If anyone knows of someone to email or contact at Logitech other than the customer support number then any help would be appreciated.

Just a follow up. I called the corporate office and got hold a lite brite that said if I lived in Canada, the $10 shipping insurance wouldn't be a problem.

This is really bad. I can make a claim with the USPS and get back $10 with a lot of hassle.

I left a voicemail with the escalation team as no one would answer even though the secretary claimed she was paging a certain person.

This is a bad system though because even if Logitech loses your remote, they will just claim it didnt arrive and the USPS will only pay you a maximum of $10.00.

Logitech told you to place a value of only $10 on it? Why? That would seem to be illegal given customs. Unless they're saying that a broken remote is only worth $10.

And I say the following without trying to excuse Logitech in anyway way, but you shouldn't have sent something worth $100 and insured it for only $10. That is true whether you are sending domestically or internationally. And using USPS with no tracking number? How is that a good idea? You can get packing tracking from the USPS for a nominal fee.

However, your point of having their repair service out of the country is definitely valid. I'm shocked that this is true. They sell in the country, you should be able to send it to a US repair depot. If they in turn ship it to Canada for repairs is up to them, but forcing their customers to deal with customs and the like for a broken piece of equipment? Bizarre.

We Canadians run into this sort of problem all the time. Sorry to hear about your problem but it gives me a good feeling to know it also happens to Americans. I am sure they will solve your problem eventually. I have had nothing but good luck when dealing with them.

I did get a new remote from Logitech for $60. I had an attorney (who is a personal friend) contact Logitech and all of a sudden that find the remote and sent me a new 880 with the better cradle.

And yes they REQUIRE you to put value of the remote for $10 so it passes through customs wihtout them have to pay taxes. As I stated, they require USPS or FEDEX and FEDEX is over $60 for ground shipment to them. They will NOT accept UPS.

While I am glad I did get a new unit for $60 (plus my shipping costs), I will not buy another harmony remote until they have support in the states.

I posted this to let people be aware that it can become a huge problem to send your remote in for repair and their are no authorized Logitech/Harmoney remote centers in the states that I am aware of.
