I have a Sony HDTV, and for the antenna channels (3.1, 5.1, etc) I need to program a "dot" to one of my buttons (which one?). I know it will be a learned command for the 880 right? But from research here I think I'm finding that this remote doesn't like the "." when you go to load the update?

Sorry if this seems confusing. I'm somewhat new again to the electronics world. I just picked up this tv and remote this past Sunday. I already have a AV receiver,a and regular DirecTV (DirecTV HD will be installed in a couple of weeks).

You did not specify your Sony TV model but chances are that the dot (.) command is already there. Check the "Learn infrared commands" and the "Customize the Device, Sound, and Picture commands for this TV" (both under Device > More Options). Try it in device mode and if it works, then just map it to a key in the Activity. Some people map it to the +/Clear key. If it does not work, then teach it from you original remote using the "Learn infrared commands". Just select it and click Learn. It will be the first one in the "Other Commands" section (just above the "10+" entry).

Currently there is a bug with the "Favorite Channel" for the 6xx series (don't know if the 880 has the same bug). On the 6xx, the "Favorite Channel" interface will accept the dot and the dash but you get an ASSERTION error during the update process.

The Activity Start "Set it to this channel" feature does not accept a dot (.) nor a dash (-) in the channel number. The workaround is to simply use a sequence of commands (via the "Send this IR command").

Thanks for the reply. I have a Sony KDF-50E2000.

I also just found this: I can set all the antenna channels to my favorites list (I only have 8 of them).

To change to a digital channel of the format X-XX or X.XX the remote needs to learn the "-" or "." command from your original remote.

Click the Devices tab on your home page.
Click Settings next to your channel-changer device and then select Learn infrared commands. This will display a page of commands.
Scroll down to the Learn a New Command field and enter "-" or ".".
Click Learn New Command and follow the instructions to teach the new command. Once the command is learned, you will be returned to the list of all commands. Click Done to return to your home page.
Click the Activities tab and select the watch television type activity.
Select Set Up Favorite Channels and click Next
Enter the channel numbers (example: 3-10)
Click Save when finished.
Update the remote.

I checked the IR dataset for your Sony KDF-50E2000 TV and the dot (.) command is already there. You should try it first in device mode. If it works in device mode, then proceed directly with your "Favorite Channel" setup, else teach it, then proceed with your "Favorite Channel" setup. Please let me know if you get an ASSERTION error with your 880 during the update process when using the dot (.) command in the "Favorite Channel" setup.

Thats the thing. last night I se up my favorite channels with 3.1, 5.1, so forth. Well, when I tried to update the remote, it gave me an error. The assertion error sounds familiar, but it mentioned teaching it the "." command. It was getting late so i quit fooling with it. Seems ever since I got the TV this past Sunday all I've been doing is playing with gadgets instead of watching my new TV LOL!!

If it mentioned teaching the "." command, then that is not the ASSERTION error. The "." command was recently added to the Harmony Sony database. Click the troubleshoot on your TV device and it will let you know if there is an update for your device. Else, just teach it the "." command.

If the command exists in the database for that model of TV, you should be able to go into "Change function of buttons" and use the dropdown. Otherwise, it should be in the FAQ section. If the command is giving you problems, try learning it in RAW (from the troubleshooting area for the activity).

Putting anything in the favorite channel list other than numbers causes the assertion failure error. You can't have dashes or dots in the favorite channels. A serious bug.

jlet and highfigh are right!! All I had to do tonight was:

Download the latest version of software which was 7.0.2. I had version 4.0 something like that.

I went to the Activities tab, clicked on "Customize Buttons" under what I titled "Watch TV Antenna". This brought me to a page with all of the drop down menus for each button. For the "+" button, I was able to choose the "." in the drop down menu for it.

After this, I was abnle to make my favorites list using the channels 3.1, 5.1, 10.1 and so forth.

It works!!!! Just make sure you have downloaded the latest software and firmware.

Thanks everyone!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Jason, you have confirmed the 880 does not have the Favorite Channel dot/dash ASSERTION bug. I am still waiting for Logitech/Harmony to fix this bug on the 6xx series.
