My Sony CD player (SonyCDP-CE375) doesn't have an off button on the remote. Is there any way to teach the Harmony 880 to shut it off anyway?

Try the discrete PowerOn and PowerOff commands in device mode. If they work and don't toggle, then reconfigure the power settings (Device> More Options > Adjust Power Setting) to use the discrete method (A button on the remote for On, and a different button for Off) along with the discrete power commands (PowerOn and PowerOff).

But that will only shut it off when I shut off all apps, right? It won't shut it off when I'm utilizing the receiver for cable/DVD/tuner.

It looks from the Harmony software that it has discrete on/off commands. Have you tried setting it up that way?

That's one of the reasons I replaced my Sony CD player with a JVC. And I gained a couple of CD slots. Sony had 5 and the JVC has 7. And I'm happy now.
