(This is my first post, so be kind to me... :) )

I have recently purchased a surround receiver called Marantz SR-8001 which has 2 HDMI outputs, which is in fact one of the reasons I bought it. Unfortunately it is not a HDMI splitter, but you have to manually change the HDMI output through a menu. One issue here is that in that menu you can only toggle between OUT1 and OUT2 which makes things extra problematic. (The toggling would be done with the sequence: Exit Menu Down Down Down OK Down Down Down Right Exit)

Lets assume that I use my Xbox as my only signal source. My goal is this: When I press the activity "Xbox on TV" the remote should start the TV and the receiver and hopefully switch to OUT1. And if I press the activity "Xbox on Proj" it should start the projector and the receiver and switch to OUT2.

To me this seems impossible with the normal behaviour since the remote cannot remember the state of which OUT1/OUT2 is currently in use. If macros were available this could be solved with having to press a macro key saying for instance "Toggle HDMI Out" after the activity was pressed. But is this possible? I don't know how to assign multiple commands to one button.

Is there another way of solving this?

Best regards,

Pick which display you use most often, and use that HDMI output(say HDMI1) as an "anchor".
When you select any activity that uses that output, no switching is required.

For any activity that uses the other HDMI output(say HDMI2) add the commands required to change from HDMI1 to HDMI2 to the activity start sequence, and add the commands to return to HDMI1 to the activity end sequence.

Now the remote assumes the output is always on HDMI1. When you select an HDMI2 activity the output is switched to HDMI2. When you then leave that activity(by turning off or selecting any other activity) the output is re-selected back to HDMI1...I hope this makes sense??? I do a similar thing with my DVD player to select an aspect ratio, as it outputs to both a 4:3 CRT TV and a 16:9 projector.

To add activity start/end commands, select "Customize" for the activity, then "Run the setup wizard again". When it asks if the setup is correct, select "Yes, but I want to add more control". You will then get a screen where you can add commands to the activity start and/or end sequences. Note this is using the web based setup...I haven't used the software setup so it might be slightly different.

Thank you, it makes perfect sense. You are a genius! :)

I will try it as soon as I get time to do some remote "programming".

You can specify a series of commands for input selection and smart state should keep track of it also. Try creating a dummy or clone device with 2 inputs (HDMI1 and HDMI2) setup as toggles (I flip through the list of inputs). When it asks you for the command to flip through the inputs, select the bottom radio button (this device needs more than one command to turn on and off) then hit Next and it will give you 2 more commands each time until you get enough. Yes, the wording is wrong but it works.

Then add that device to each activity selecting HDMI1 or HDMI2 as the input as necessary. Since it's a toggle it won't resend the commands unless it actually needs to switch inputs.
