My 885 has arrived today. I gather from these posts that setup requires patience and time. Before I embark on this mission can anyone tell me whether I can control 2 different home cinema systems with the one remote.

On system comprises TV, Sky+, DVD, Amp..
The other comprises HDTV, Sky+, DVD, Amp....

Is it a case of telling remote TV1, TV2, DVD1, DVD2....

Any advice gratefully received.....

Yes, I think you're on the right lines.

Assuming your 2 systems are in different locations then one thing to watch out for is when changing from one location to the other make sure you switch the first system off. Otherwise your Harmony will get in a terrible pickle over which devices are on and which are off.

e.g. If you're using 'Watch TV Room 1' and go to your other room and select the 'Watch TV Room 2' the Harmony will send Off commands for all the kit in 'Watch TV Room 1' but because you've gone to the other room they won't be received and the kit will remain on. If you then go back to Room 1 and select 'Watch TV Room 1' it will try to turn all the 'Watch TV Room 1' devices back on again and actually turn them off!

As indicated you'll simply need to setup different activities for each room. If you don't want to turn everything off in the first room before going to the second room, when you return to the first room hold your hand over the IR emitter on the front of the remote and re-select the activity you were in when you left. This will get the remote back to the right state to match the equipment.

Okay - I'm getting there. Honest. Thanks for your help so far.

Answers to teething problems are probably out there but if any of you have quick fixes then I would be grateful.

I have exactly the same problems on both systems.

Seems an obvious one but my TV's (like everyone else's I guess) come on from the manual on button on the unit - so the Harmony gets confused when they are on already. Conversely if the TV's are on standby then the Harmony can't wake them. I've tried teaching the buttons but it isn't working. What's the conceived wisdom here?

Second one is on the Sky+ (digital set top boxes) - one of the activities I have set up for both is 'Listen To Radio' - it switches everything on but doesn't change to the correct channel broadcasting radio.

Tips welcome...

If you're using Activites (which you should be) then when set up correctly the Harmony shouldn't get confused.

e.g. If you have 2 Activities:-

Watch TV (which uses your TV and Sky+)
Watch a Movie (which uses your TV and DVD Player)

With everything off select Watch TV and the Harmony sends Power On/Off to your TV and Sky+ (which switches them on) and sets the TV to the correct input for Sky+.

If you now select Watch a Movie the Harmony sends Power On/Off to the Sky+ (which switches it off) and Power On/Off to the DVD Player (which switches it on) and sets the TV to the correct input for the DVD Player. It does not send Power On/Off to the TV because it knows that it's already on.

If your set-up gets out of sync then use the Help button. Questions will appear on the LCD screen and when you answer them the Harmony will attempt to correct any discrepancies (e.g. a device being off when it should be on) by sending the relevant commands for that device.

If help doesn't sort out your problem then make sure that you can switch the devices On and Off in Device Mode. If not then you need to troubleshoot the Power settings for the device (using the software). Once you can switch the devices On and Off in Device Mode then troubleshoot the Activities that are causing problems (again using the software).

Also check if your devices support the discrete PowerOn and PowerOff commands in device mode. If so, change the device Adjust Power Settings to use the discrete method (A button on the remote for On, and a different button for Off) instead of the Power Toggle method.
