jlet you fixed it again. Not sure how I got the Watch TV in to the mode to leave on used things on and why I didn't notice it on other devices. Took me a while to find the setting, never did with the regular software, but found it with the web interface.

I tried the multiple volume downs in a special command programmed in the RAW mode. The longest command I could get it to take was 4 down clicks. I tried adding it 5 times to the Activity Start. Sort of worked, but only reduce volume 10 clicks in stead of 20. Decided to go back to mute for now and pick up an attenuator.

JEB, I'm not sure if this applies to your amp but I thought I share just in case. Some recent amps offer a couple of features that might help your audio blasting issue. Some allow you to set a starting volume level for input. some also offer "volume trimming" allowing you to + or - a few db each input to help address your exact issue. Maybe yours supports something similar.

AV Receiver is the bottom of the high end line from 6 or 7 years ago and it doesn't seem to have any adjustments.

Turns out that even going with attenuators are not going to solve the problem. I finally setup the radio part of the AV Receiver on the 880 and was remind of the fact that the radio comes in to loud also. So the real problem looks like the audio from the TV (all my other video sources are currently going through the TV) is to low. Need to spend some more time with that TV manual and maybe I can fix the problem.

See if your TV or other devices have option for sending out variable or fixed audio. If so, try experimenting with both to see which gives better results.

I spent some time reading the manual and playing with the TV today. The TV nicely gives 3 presets for different audio levels, I just don't see a easy way to use them. You have to go into menu mode click right arrow 4 times down arrow a couple of times than the left arrow again to select between the 3. Pretty useless. If they had a button on the remote to toggle between the 3 it would solve my problem.

I did discover why I'm having problems. In the same convolute location is a toggle for the TV speakers. I like the TV speakers on for late night and early morning viewing so the rest of the house isn't disturbed. When we watch together I use the AV Receiver. If I toggle off the speakers the volume can be adjusted so AV Receiver is at about the same volume in all modes. Problem is with the TV speakers on they are louder than you want compared to the stereo so you lower the TV volume and raise the Amp volume.

Again if the TV had the speaker toggle on the remote I could leave them off unless I want only the TV.

Guess the next step is check with ViewSonic to see if they have some hidden way to get to the buried features easier.
