I'm considering of getting a Logitech Harmony Advanced Universal Remote for Xbox 360 (why doesn't this model have a simple model number?), but I don't know if it'll be able to control my Olevia 232V TV. I've been unable to get my Home Theater Master MX-500 to work with this TV (it shows "GOOD" after training on each key press, but then is completely ignored by the TV) and I don't want to suffer the same fate with the Harmony.

I've tried to find a list of all the devices in the Harmony database, but no such (at least publicly available) list seems to exist. Is there one somewhere?

Does anyone have any experience with using any model of Harmony Remote with this TV or any of the Olevia TVs (the 232V is a series 2 Olevia)?

Thanks people!

Thanks for that link. It sounds like there's at least one Olevia in the database. Do manufacturers tend to stick with the same control codes, or might they sometimes change them over time and between models?

I can see that I could end up with a problem with the different inputs, although at present (using the supplied Olevia remote) I have to press the "source" key multiple times to switch between inputs. If the Harmony works I'll at least have the advantage of consolidating my remotes even if the source switching doesn't work elegantly. Then again, I'm going to be sticking with just two sources at the moment so I might not encounter this issue (I'm using the tuner input for my cable TV input and VGA for my Xbox 360, which I'm also using as a DVD player because it has upscaling).

Actually, I think this one is in the database. Even if it isn't, Syntax, the maker of Olevia, admitted that their TVs can be used with learning universal remotes (in an underhanded but elegant way of selling their own line of universal remotes). Now, I've seen several of the 300, 400, and 500 series listed in the Database so I don't think it will be an issue at all.

And I believe the 200 series uses one source button for cyclical input switching between ALL inputs (my brother just got a 237v and that's the way his does it). This is one of the four types of input switching methods the Harmony handles very well. BTW, those TVs take quite a while to power up don't they? It's like watching grass grow...but they show some stunning picture.

It's not like the old LT32HV where it has a menu that you scroll and select, or multiple cyclical buttons for each set of inputs (Video, Component, and VGA/DVI). It took me a while to figure out how to manipulate the switching efficiently for the LT but you shouldn't have any problems with your TV.

Good luck and enjoy!

Thanks! I don't understand why Logitech don't publish a list showing what's on the Harmony database. Wouldn't this be a good sales tool?

My 232V does use cyclical input switching, yes. It's almost certainly the same stock remote for all the 2 series sets.

I know Olevia has their own universal remote, but I was slightly worried about using something else after my MX-500 failed to learn off my remote. The MX-500 is a good remote, but it is fairly old now I suppose.

I haven't noticed the start up sequence being particularly long, but then I'm comparing it to my old Sony CRT. It does come up with the Olevia logo for a second or so when it first comes on (seeing a logo on a TV during power up was a surprise to me - it's obviously an easy thing to do - I'd just never seen it before, this being my first flat panel TV).

a) since the harmony is a learning remote it can effectively support any brand or model of equipment that comes with a remote. If you publish a list then someone who has something that's not on the list might assume that it can't control their equipment which is not correct.

b) that list would contain several THOUSAND entries and would be out of date as soon as it's published.

I just received a Harmon8 880 today, and set it up with my Olevia (Syntax-Brillian) 27" HDTV. Although my specific model was not in the database, the Logitech SW suggested a similar model (Mine without the TV tuner). I simply needed to add the "tuner" to the source selection "loop" (It really was simple). I took a look and the Olevia 232V is natively supported. I set up the Harmony to switch between a PVR (HDMI) and DVD Player (S-Video). The selection is balky, but it is the same using the Olevia remote (It seems to ignore some keystrokes, most often the first). I have only spent about an hour on it though (The complete setup and tweaking for five devices), and I want to play with the keystroke delays a bit more. Researching the Olevia, I knew it might be an issue, but it was such an outstanding value, I decided to go for it. The Harmony is my first universal remote, and so far I am very impressed. It recovers well from the balky Olevia source selection (It remembers the status of all device settings), and prompts you to get it back in sync when you hit the help key anytime something is amiss.

Thanks Shoe5442!

I think we Olevia owners are somewhat stuck with an inconvenient source selection issue regardless of the remote. However, given the great value of these screens that's a price worth paying.
