Am I the only one who has wasted hours on the phone with a level one tech while he/she goes through their checklist (most of which has nothing to do with a problem)?

I have two H659 remotes, purchased before the Logitech days. I had absolutely no problems updating my old 659's yesterday afternoon.

Last evening I purchased a new H880.

I turned off my McAfee security software. I have Windows XP with SP2. The website updated my Harmony software to version 7.2.

Immediately after the software update, I had a problem with the website - I had a good USB connection, and the website recognized the 880, but it simply would not update the remote. I was on the "sand dial" for hours with Update status of 0%.

After finally getting through to a level one tech, he sent me into such gyrations that ultimately the remote "blue-screened" on me, with a message that said "Connect website to update remote" Well, hell I WAS connected to the website. It was obvious that the remote was so brain-scrambled that it was beyond help. The tech was clueless. He said he was able to look at my remote and there was a problem that he couldn't identify. Still refused to escalate me...

So the tech says, "Take it back to the store". He entered an incident number for me and advised that a level two tech would call me within a business day.

Last night I swapped the "kluged" 880 for another new one at the retail outlet. I charged it overnight. I was excited early this morning that I got onto the website immediately and a good connection was made with the new 880. It looked like what I am used to seeing on the Harmony website...

Guess what? After entering my devices and activities, I clicked on the yellow "Update remote" icon, and I have been sitting here for 45 minutes waiting for something to happen. The sand dial is deafening... Is there an update queue??

I'm afraid to disconnect the remote from the USB connection while it is on the Update Remote screen.

Any suggestions out there? I'm still waiting for a call from the level two tech.

Well, I owe Harmony a partial apology. This morning a level one tech immediately bumped me to level two where I had a great experience with a very intelligent, informed and effective Harmony representative. I have learned that for some unknown reason, my computer, ISP or security software will not allow transfer of the data necessary to update my 880 remote. The level two tech was able to e-mail me my config file so I could upload the remote directly from my desktop!

The interesting thing is that I was able to update my (2) H659s all morning long! The 880 data will simply not pass...

Any suggestions out there?

I've had the same experience with my 680, the little circle next to "Please wait" keeps going around and around. Once I got an error message about the update file not being compatible with the 680 firmware, whatever that means. My solution is to launch the local software and use that to update the remote. It will check any changes you've made both locally and on the website and update the remote. It also updates a lot faster and you don't have to sit there waiting for the dialog box that asks if you "Want to download this Harmony software" that comes from the website. I've gotten so that I use the 7.2.0 software for all my updates except the settings that can only be reached on the website, even then I use the local software to update the remote.

The 7.2.0 update screwed up my 880 until I deleted everything and started over.

Can you tell me what your intenet connection is? My is via DSL and AT&T (formally SBCGlobal) and my 880 updates fine even with window's firewall on and McAfee antivirus installed and running. I've edited it's layout and updated it several times today.

Try port-triggering for port 80. If you need more information on this, reply to post and I'll go further.

Also - TIP - I frequently have to pull the remote's battery, plug into USB and then update - with battery removed.

Trouble is, the plastic on the 8xx series battery door is way too fragile. It breaks with even the slightest misjudgement of how much effort or direction is necessary to open it. That and the sides of the plastic are sharp enough to actually cut you. Really bad design.

I'm terribly disappointed with the 8xx series.

Please elaborate.... I am sitting at the same point as the original poster, but after two calls to TS have given up on that route!

Hi, just wondering, what are the settings that can only be reached on the web site?
I've always used the local software, so what am I missing out on? thanks!

Why bother with the local program if you have reasonably speedy access to the web for file downloads? Your browser will try to block them but simply click on the bar to let them through. Then you know you are working with the most functional version. The web version is more complete but why would you need to know exactly where? It can change at any time on the web while the software waits for a maintenance edition to be released.
