I just got this remote and spent a good part of yesterday getting it programmed. I have pretty much everything working OK. Now it's just a matter of fine tuning some settings.
Quick questions - is there any way to customize the Device buttons on the actual remote?
For instance, if I hit the Device button and then DVD Player, there may be up to 10 pages of commands to scroll through to get to a specific command. Can I "hide" pages or customize some of those pages so that my most frequently used commmands are on the first couple of pages?
Hope this makes sense and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks -
Julie

Your "most frequently used commands" should be mapped to your activities....not accessed by device mode. Device mode is only for rarely used commands or troubleshooting.

For the activity in question, select Customize->Change behaviour of buttons.

czzer is right...put your most used commands on your lcd screen of your remote
by following his instructions...
there is no way to change the order of the commands in device mode.

I'm not sure I understnad how to do what you suggest. For example on my Panasonic DVD recorder, under the Device button, I hve to go to page 3 of 6 to access the "Functions" command. This allows me to dig deeper into my DVD menu structure. How do I access that command without going through the Device button?
I've got this remote about 90% programmed. I'm just finishing up some minor programming.
Also, I have my DVD recorder set to be off when I'm not using, it (I've double checked the Settings for the related Activities several times) and it apepars that all of the settings are correct. The DVD recorder does NOT power off when I want to watch TV. Watching TV does not require the DVD recorder. Any suggestions on that.
Thansk -

Julie - the harmony remotes have 2 modes - activity and device. Device only controls one device at a time and gives you access to all of the commands. Activity mode controls a collection of devices simultaneously and also takes care of turning devices on or off and selecting the right inputs. Each activity has it's very own custom button configuration. e.g. the volume buttons control the AV receiver but the channel buttons control the satellite receiver. The custom buttons (the ones on the LCD screen when you're in an activity) can be any combination of commands from any devices.

In your example you can put the Functions command for the DVD recorder in the LCD screen of your Watch a DVD activity (or whichever activity uses that device). Look under each activity for a Change behavior of buttons link. The custom buttons are at the bottom.

Once you add the commands that you use most often to the activity buttons you can stay in activity mode 95% of the time - you only need device mode for seldom used commands that you don't want to or can't map to the activity buttons.

Hope that helps.

Thanks so much for your help. This worked great.
Now, another question for you. I have tried and tried to get my Panasonic DVD recorder (DMR-E85H) to "Power Off" when it is not being used in an activity. It does NOT turn off. I have checked the settings over and over and everything appears correct. However, whenever I check the remote with my system, the DVD recorder powers on OK, it just doesn't power off - if I go to an activity that doesn't use it.
And, on the original remote, there is a blue "Dubbing" button and a green "Chapter" button. I need those for setting up certain manual recordings on the hard drive portion of the Panasonic.
Any suggestions?
Thanks -
Julie

Did you check the power settings (DVD Recorder device->Adjust power settings)? Go into device mode and look for power on/off or toggle commands. Try each one you find and figure out if it's a toggle or discrete. A toggle is one command that turns it on, then off, then on again. A discrete is a command that only turns it on (once it's on pressing it again does nothing) and a different command for off. Sounds like you have the wrong command programmed for off. Just figure out how your recorder responds and to what commands, then readjust the power settings to match. If the settings are correct but it's still not working, try increasing the inter-device delay for the recorder (adjust delays).

For the blue and green buttons, again check the commands in device mode - they should be there (labeled blue and green or something similar). Then just map those to the custom LCD buttons for the activity (or an unused hard button). If you can't find them in device mode, use the learning feature and learn them from the original remote.

OK, here's a crazy thing going on. Now, after several days of working OK, my Samsung TV and Samsung HD receiver are NOT turning on - at all. Everything was working fine up until this morning. I had not made any changes to the Pwer On or Off features of any of the devices. Pressing the Help button on the remote does nothing, where in the last several days, it helped jsut fine.
Any suggestions?
Thanks -
Julie

P.S. The problems I had with powering on and off the DVD recorder are now fixed, but it appears I have a whole new wet of problems.

HELP!!!

I've done some research and here's what I've come up with. I can power on and off the TV and HD reciever by using the Power Toggle command within the device optionon the remote. So I know the remote is receiving the correct signal/code. However, if I hit the Watch TV, Watch DVD, or Watch Satellite (TiVO) the TV and the HD receiver do not come on. If I turn them on by using the Power Toggle command within the device and then hit Watch TV, Watch DVD or Watch Satellite, then the system changes all of the inputs to the correct setting.
So, it appears to be a Power On/Off command within the activity. I have checked and re-checked all of the settings several times and everything seems to be set up correctly. Aarrgghh!! This is very frustrating.
Help!
Thanks -
Julie

OK, I am going to post hopefully one more post and then I need to walk away from this remote before I flush it down the toilet.
All of the devices respond to Poewr On, Power Off, and Power Toggle within the Device mode on the remote. Once I manually turn devices on, then I can use the Activity mode to switch back and forth between activities.
However, now the Help button doesn't help and the Off button doesn't work (to turn everything off).
As I mentioned in an earlier post, everything was working fine last night. I just had to make one adjustment to the HD receiver. Now everything is pretty messed up. I have no idea what happened and I have no idea how to fix the problem. Should I remove all of my activities and just start over? I feel like I've put a fair amount of time into getting this remote set up and I'm pretty frustrated.
Again, any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thansk much.

Yea, I feel your pain.

Activity tab.
Settings (for the Watch activity you're having problems with)
Review the settings for this Activity, then NEXT
(review what is listed to verify the Devices used and status of each looks OK)
If all is OK, then:
Yes, but I want to add more control of the options and devices for this activity, then NEXT
(review what is listed. Add device(s) here if you need access to their functions in the activity you are editing)
NEXT
NEXT through each device, until you come to the Custom Actions page.
Here you can add actions for each device in the activity to the startup of the activity and the closing of the activity.

Hope that helps.

All of the devices respond to Poewr On, Power Off, and Power Toggle within the Device mode on the remote. Once I manually turn devices on, then I can use the Activity mode to switch back and forth between activities.

The line saying you manually turn the devices may be that whole problem in this.
If that is what you are doing with any or all of the activities you may have the 880 out of sync with your devices and activities. If they are using discrete codes for on and off then they may be why they dont respond.

If what you are saying about the 880 being out of sync, then how do I get everything back in sync?
One other thing that I rememeber doing, and this may be part of the problem, is that yesterday, I was using the Help on the remote and a couple of times it asked me if a device was on and I may have said yes, when it actually may not have been on - just to get out of the Help menu. I may have screwed some stuff up, because now the Help doesn't work at all.
On a somewhat realted note, the Off button at the top of the menu doesn't work either.
I love the concept of this remote, it's just been a bit challenging getting it set up.
Again, I appreciate any hekp.

I am trying to sort this out too on my 525 (see new question just asked!!) So when you go into set up for activity and select change behaviour of buttons how do you then move them around so that your favs are first. Do you have to overtype the first one say with what you want it to be and then select the function from the drop down box?

If so then i presume the one you've overtyped ypu have to add as anew button?

The LCD commands are grouped by device and device priority. On the 6xx series, the device priority order is from left to right.
