Hello, everyone.

I don't know how many people have 995, but with its lack of ability to select a disc by number, I thought maybe someone can share any work-around approaches, since it's such a pain to scroll through 400 discs to find the movie you want.

I currently set-up a custom button that assigns "Folder" option. I re-named it "Show All Movies". This is as far as I could go with this thing, unfortunately.

In order to put the collection somehow into categories (if someone can help figure this out, that'd be great) theoretically it's possible to put all your movies into 4 folders (A,B,C,D), by genre. This way, when you select, Folder "B", for instance you'll get all action flicks. Does anyone know how to assign 880 to do that? On the original Sony remote you have to press "Folder", then move right 4 times, then select a folder...I tried to assign a "Folder A" command that's available, but it does nothing.

Also, I had no luck making "Media" button to play specific disc slots on 995.

Any help with trying to manage the 995 beast would be helpful. I'll play around with it some more and let you know if I find anything.

-Cheers

I don't have a 995 but have a DVP-CX777ES and use the commands

- display
- enter
- (slot #)
- enter
- display

Are you saying this doesn't work, because I believe a number of other 995 users are successfully doing this, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, it does work, just checked.
Thanks for the tip.

Ahh, one step closer to automation bliss...

Good to hear it works.

Now, have you gone into the 'Devices' tab and the 'Settings' button for the DVP-CX995 and gone through the 'Set Up Media' option in order to tell the Harmony what's in each slot.

I tried, and it did not work, unforunately. I decided, after all, that selecting from the mdeia function of the remote may not be the best choice, too much button pushing to find what you need. So I am going to take someone's suggestion and just have a printed list of movies and select specific slots.

Thanks for checking.

Try intervocative.com There dvd software is great, and free. I upgraded to the 20 dollar version, and I am extremely happy with it. Totally customizable, and a huge database of DVD's. I have 2 dvd's that are not on their list, but I can add them to their database myself.

i was able to successfully label the slots in the 880 interface, but after clicking on them in "media", it won't play.
any suggestions?
i can see the numbers being typed in on the front panel of the jukebox when i select a movie, but they aren't being done at the right time, or within the right interface.

One thing with most Sony devices is that there are often control codes NOT on the original remote that can be used to go directly to some features more precisely.

I find them for all my devices just manually searching through every possible EFC number from 000 to 255 on a cheap OneForAll remote. I keep a written log of what each number did, then use that list and the oneforall to teach the unique codes to my 880.

I don't own your device, but you might find info for it by posting your question in the OneForAll forum here on remotecentral.

One should also try all the commands in device mode and document their behaviour.

at long last, it works!!
this has to be the coolest feature. Now i can go through my library of 400 dvds/cds, ON THE REMOTE, pick one with the click of a button, and boom it plays.
bye bye printed out spreadsheet, hello lcd menu!

this remote is worth the price if it ONLY did this feature...the fact that it runs everything else in the room is pure gravy

Thats great.

Now please let everyone know what you did to get it working in case others have the same problem.

And just to make it clear, I have a DVP-CX777ES and use the media button to select the DVDs in the slot. Once you've entered a few DVD titles, index pages will be created (ie. A-G, H-N, O-T, U-Z) so it's easier to find the disc you are looking for.

Very frustrating when we all pitch in to help someone but they don't post what the final fix was so that others can benefit from it.

As you can see I asked him to post 1 hour after his last post and now 10 days ago with no response, so highly unlikely he will come back and see this.

Ok here's what i did to enable the media feature on the 880 to pick a dvd from your changer and play it.
I'm going to assume you are able to import and/or type in the names of the dvd's using the "setup media" option, so i won't go in to detail there.
Here's everything else though:

1. on your logitech homepage under the "devices" section, under "DVD - Sony DVD (DVP-CX995V)" choose "more options".
2. click on "Advanced setup for this DVD"
3. check the box for "I want to turn off this device when it's not in use" and click next.
4. check the box for "One button on the remote for turning it both On and Off" and click next.
5. check the box for "I don't have the original remote, but I know the commands that are used: PowerToggle" and click next (i just did this out of laziness, you could also use your own remote)
6. click "next" on the page with the delay times
7. enter the number of discs your dvd player can hold: 400. click next.
8. check the box for "I use number keys to select a disc" and click next

ok here's where it gets odd:

9. for "What command do you use to START disc selection?", choose: ""My device needs more than one command to turn it on and off." Why they say "turn it on and off" i have no clue, but this is what is used to program it.
Now click next.
10. There should be multiple dropdown boxes now. For the first one, choose "display". For the second, choose "directionright". Leave the third empty.
Click next.
11. for "What command do you use to FINISH disc selection?", again choose: "My device needs more than one command to turn it on and off."
Click next.
12. For the first dropdown, pick "select". For the second AND third, pick "display" (this is done to get rid of the display screen afterwards)
Click next.
Then keep clicking next until you're out of that screen and back to the homepage.
Upload your changes to the remote, and presto, media function should work fine.

For what its worth, the logitech page wins my award for worst design and least usable webpage ever. Its unreal that a company that makes such an amazing product would pair that product with an impossible webpage.
