Harmony 720 button text labels worn off in only six days of use!

I was stunned to see today that after only six days of use, numerous text labels printed on the case under the Transport Control buttons have worn off completely. There is nothing left at all under the "SKIP BACK", "PLAY", "SKIP FORWARD" or "PAUSE" buttons, and the word "Skip" that is printed on the case under the SKIP button is almost completely gone.

Yes, I use the transport control buttons almost exclusively, but that's what they are there for. I couldn't possibly have "overused" the buttons in only a few hours of use. I don't have chemicals, hand cream or sandpaper on my fingers.

While I would not be happy that the text wore off after a year of use, at least it would be slightly understandable.

But SIX DAYS!?

Thanks!

Ya gotta love digital cameras -- take 17 photos changing angles and settings and one of them is bound to turn out just fine. :)

But SIX DAYS!?

Update:

I sent an email to Logitech about the problem on June 21 and while their reply on June 26 did not address the problem specifically or if it had been solved, they did offer to replace the remote. The new remote arrived yesterday, July 3.

Hopefully the new text will last longer, but I have nothing but optimism to support that hope.

Here's a photo of what the Transport button label text on the original remote looks like today (about two weeks later than the first photo) -- it continues to disappear ...

My "Play" lettering on my 720 is completely gone after less than a week of light use. I am afraid this is a defective design, but I would appreciate hearing if your new one fares any better.

I'll have to check mine when I get home, but I don't see why you need them in the first place. The buttons are self-explanatory and light up - you can't see the writing in the dark.

I bought on today at Costco in San Diego and the buttons have no labels.

Here's a picture:

If they're still there when you buy the remote, rub them with your finger for a minute or two and they'll be gone, and you'll never miss them. Probably should have never been put on there in the first place.

Maybe these were meant as temporary labels to assist during the production assembly process.

Certainly possible - they definitely wear off very easily. The only other explanation is that they used the wrong ink.

Will the 720 control simple home depot dimmer (lutron)?

If it's IR (which I think it is) the answer is yes. Anything that comes with an IR remote control can be controlled by any Harmony remote. If it's not in the database you can learn from the OEM remote.

Oh well. The buttons didn't need labelling anyway. The symbols on the buttons are descriptive enough!

Update: I was the original poster for this discussion thread and wanted to add the data point that my replacement remote received in July has NOT had the problem of the button label text wearing off.

I'm still guessing that the original run of these remotes had issues that were corrected in later runs.

I just received a replacement remote due to lettering wearing off and the replacement has no lettering at all. I guess they fixed the problem....
