Thanks for the replies.

beckp: good suggestion. I tried that and it worked pretty
well. Thanks. :)

scgf: for the life of me I couldn't figure it out but
managed to be on my way in no time following your instructions.
Thanks a whole lot. :D

Someone I used to work with many years ago showed me you can use tape to get tape residue off, has many applications for use. I do it all the time. Someone needs to invent an adhesive that stays on but comes off with one pull and no residue ....

Hello,
since 2 days I'm a proud owner of a HK TC 30. Bought it brand new from a (web)shop here in the Netherlands for the (€-$ converted) price of 154 USD (of which 20 USD is postage). I guess a bargain.

First thing I did is install the Logitech drivers (v7.3), so I could benefit of the easiest way to setup the remote. But alas, when connecting the device to usb, it wasn't recognised. Tried to get is by finding it in ControlPanel/System/Human ID, but that didn't work either.
I then installed the downloaded Harman Kardon driver (v5.1.4.88). It found a newer version of the software online, which it installed immediately, so now it's updated to v 5.5.3.2.
In this software it's quite easy to setup the activities, buttons etc. It is exactly the same to setup devices as it is with the 'testdrive'-site of Logitech. Definitely the same catalog.

But, as I've read on the forums, there should be a difference between the HK and the Harmony sites concerning setting up activities and buttons. Can anyone explain to me what's the difference and if I really should try to get the Harmony-site working (ie recognising my HK-remote ;-) )?

I tried to use the tips written down bij drew2k1, but that didn't work. I get redirected to HK site/software. Removing cookies (which are named 'members.harmonyremote.com' to my surprise) didn't do the trick either.
When connecting it to the Logitech Harmony Remote software v7.3 I can't get the remote recognised. I sometimes get the message 'can't display page/content' or something like that.

If there's no difference between these latest versions of Harmony's and HK's software, then it'd be easy for me.

What WOULD be something to make me try more, is when Harmony's software is able to display a preview of how the remote's screen looks like with the button's on it.

greetz,

I just got this to work late last night, and in Firefox
even!

The trick is to leave the browser tab open showing the
error message about the unsopported browser. From start
to finish, here are the steps:

1) Open the "standard" Harmony login page: [Link: members.harmonyremote.com]

2) Login using your user ID and password for the TC30.

3) You WANT to see an error message about using an unsupported
browser. If you get this error, do NOT click NEXT on
but instead proceed to step 4.

If you did NOT get the error message, but instead get
redirected to the Harman Kardon login page, go to Tools
> Options > View Cookies. Enter "members.harmony" in
the search field and remove the cookies from the members.harmony
site. Try Steps 1 to 3 again.

4) Click this next link to open the TestDrive site in
a new tab: [Link: members.harmonyremote.com]

5) You should immediately see your devices and activities
for the TC30 within the the "traditional" Logitech Harmony
web interface.

6) Have fun!

I have to say - what a pleasure it is to use the "tradtional"
interface again, especially since I can again use the
Firefox mod that allows soft-keys to be moved up and down!

I'm no longer able to get the above "cheat" to work ... Is anyone able to?

I have a TC30. Works great. I was never able to get the windows software to work on my work laptop. it would just says "Unable to display content, Press next to continue" or something like that. The only option that worked for me was to go to http://www.mactc30.com and then configure and program my remote. Now, this website is dead!! Gone. I have NO way to program my remote now. I have a home Mac and it also needs this. I was not able to make it work using the tricks mentioned in this thread. I am really upset. Harman support is not getting back with me.

Sorry to hear that bommai. I still use my TC30 and have my XP laptop configured using the crappy client software so I can still do upgrades.

Maybe Logitech will have pity on the HK TC30 owners left in the lurch by Harmon Kardon and will allow us to again use the Logitech Harmony web interface to program the remotes ...

This is very peculiar since as far as I know, H/K is still selling their flagship receiver AVR 745 (the one I have) with the TC30 remote. They proudly say that it comes with this very powerful TC30 remote. How can they sell their flagship receiver with a remote that is not supported anymore!! I am furious because I am stuck with a non programmable remote now. I have changed my setup and so now my father in law and my wife are lost!!

I have to get a hold of another PC to see if it will work. May be there is something in my work PC that is preventing the H/K software from working. However, I did disable Anti virus and firewall software. did not make any difference.

Hurray http://www.mactc30.com now works again. I haven't verified if it actually lets me program my TC30 or not yet. I will do that tonight and report back. Kudos to H/K for taking care of this quickly. I reported the problem only 2 days ago.

More happy news. I was able to successfully program my TC30 last night using the website http://www.mactc30.com. Everything worked. I am still perplexed why the windows software will not work without the aid of this website.

I just bought a TC30 last week. It looks quite pretty- only problem is I can't do a single thing with it! The documentation says it works with 10.2.2 and later. Well, I'm on 10.5 and it does nothing- that p[rogress bar in the HK software stays resolutely on 0%.

I went through the web troubleshooting (the FAQs are still empty), no help, I emailed tech support and heard nothing back. Today, I used the UK tech support phone number and got through to Logitech who very politely said I need to speak to HK. Hmmm, the only HK number I found was in New York. So I spend ten minutes on the phone to the US, first to be told to call Logitech (!!!) and then, oh, it won't work on Leopard.

I seriously would think twice about buying another HK product based on this experience. As it is, I guess I'll have to downgrade a Mac back to Tiger- the tech support guy suggested this MIGHT work.

So do any of the Mac users here know any better?

Ok, For all of you who are having problems updating your TC-30.

The solution is quite simple,

DO NOT UPDATE BEYOND VERSION 5.1.4 of the software. The updated version 5.3.X.X breaks connectivity.

There is an issue with Logitech's side of the software.

Simply disconnect yourself from your network. If you are using a LAN *oversided phone cable* or *Cat5e* from the back. If you are using a laptop or a wireless connection disable it as well.

Launch the 5.1.4 software when you are disconnected. It will come up screaming about not being able to connect to the site and asking you to check your ISP.

Reconnect your computer to the network/internet. Click on Next. You will now be able to access all updates and properly communicate with your remote.

You must do this EVERY TIME you wish to update/change settings on your remote.

Enjoy!

Cannot also update my remote anymore.
It worked before (couple of months ago).
Nothing changed at PC.

Update remote gives:
Hardware version: Board 2.4 (0x01:0x49)
Firmware version: 4.1
Initializing Harman Kardon TC 30 Remote. Please wait...
Harman Kardon TC 30 Remote Software version: 5.3.2
Error sending data.

Error sending data is the problem.
Software cannot communicate with remote anymore?

Eureka! I have at last managed to update my TC-30!

I went to http://www.mactc30.com (in Windows) and noticed there was a message from HK regarding connectivity issues. I followed the instructions to the letter, rebooted but found I still had issues. I then opened the webpage in Firefox and connectivity was confirmed and I was able to update my remote.
