I have had troubles with my DVD tray opening at the beginning of my watch DVD activity.
I added the eject command to the end of the start up commands for the watch DVD activity. It is the last command to be executed (I thought).

Some times the tray just does not open. Some times it opens and closes again. Once a a great while it opens and stays open (thats what I wanted). I thought I understood that this would most likely be related to the number of repeats and/or inter-device delay. My inter-device delay is set at 500ms for my Pioneer DVD player.

I thought I could eliminate any question about inter-device delay be assuring that the DVD eject command was the last command in the list. In addition I added a 1.0 second delay just prior to this eject command thinking that this would assure that the DVD player had time to ignore all other device commands (rather than play with inter-device delays).

After adding the 1 second delay I still had problems and so adjusted the number of repeats down from 4-3-2 and still had intermittent issues.

NOTE that the DVD player eject command always works perfectly when executed alone and not part of a startup activity. It never opens and then closes again on its own even with 4 repeats.

I am now thinking that I just do not know enough about how the harmony 880 makes it's decisions on when to issue commands during startup. I am also thinking that I cannot be assured that the DVD eject command will be executed last just because I put it last in the que with a 1 second delay prior to it?

I will now try adjusting the inter-device delay upwards to see if I get better results. It just seemed strange that sometimes it seems more like a repeat issue because it opens and then closes again.

Can anyone enlighten me on this issue? Any bullet-proof methods to install for this. I do get tired of making changes, testing and then retesting. Some times I feel like I am going to wear out the equipment with my testing.

Can anyone tell me a little more about how the Harmony applies the inter-device delay? Is delay applied after a previous device command and before the device in question gets its command? if so then why wouldn't inserting a 1 second delay before the eject command do the same thing?

This is pretty frustrating as I bought a second H880 for my sister and after setting up her system I had the same problem on her system.

I would appreciate any insights you can offer.

Regards,
Ela

I think your problem is caused by an non-obvious default option. By default, a "Watch DVD" activity is set to send the "Play" command at the start of the activity, and to send the "Stop" command on activity exit. These options are under the "Watch DVD" activity > Customize > Change Options.

Thanks jlet,
Removing the default "play" command fixed the problem.

I guess it must always (if default left in place) send the "play" command as the very last command and this would cancel my inserted "eject" command regardless of any delays I inserted.

I sincerely appreciate all of the help you and others on this site provide.

I have noticed that the Logitech site now offers a Pro Installer login. Does that allow the individual more control over their setup?

The "Pro Installer login" is a "Dealer Login".
