I've just gotten a Harmony 676. One of the devices I'm using it to control is an Insignia HTIB102731 surround sound receiver/dvd player.

Problem: After giving the DVD player a command (in this case volume up), any command sent to any other device causes the DVD player to -repeat- that command. This appears to be the case with several of the remote commands for the Insignia. It's not particular to my unit, I've read about others having the same problem.

Note that this problem is not particular to the harmony remote. It happened when I'd adjust the volume (using the Insignia remote) then operate my TiVo (using the peanut).

The work-around is to follow the volume command with a command that doesn't do anything in particular (e.g. the number 5), so when other infrared signals cause it to repeat the command, no harm.

It seems like a unit as powerful as the Harmony would allow me to custom program the volume buttons to always do this. In other words, when I press volume up on the Harmony, I want it to send both the Volume Up command and the 'number 5' useless command. Can this be done? How?

Sure - go into the activity button customization page and next to the volume button you should see a selection in the device column for the Insignia that sends the volume up command. You can choose commands from other devices in the same row and they'll all be sent when you hit the volume button. Just pick a command that does nothing from another device or add another copy of your Insignia as a passthrough and use that to select an additional inoperative command.

Or just buy a real receiver and DVD player.
