I have a Sony 5 disk player as well. I have had
it plugged into the switched outlet of my Sony
AV receiver for the last 6 years, with no harmfull
effects.
After all, you need to turn on the receiver anyway
to hear your CDs. Just tell your Harmony that
the CD player has no power controls, and build
your activities normally.
It works perfect for me, and I don't have to leave
the CD player powered 24/7.

That sounds doable. But, does the CD player automatically start playing a CD when it is turned on? My old Kenwood CD and receiver was hooked up like you describe. Every time I turned on the receiver, the CD player turned on with it.. Fine. BUT, when it turned on, it automatically started playing a CD which switched my receiver to CD. Thus, EVERYTIME I would turn my receiver on, I would have to hit the CD button, hit stop, then go back to the input I wanted to use. PITA.
But I imagine I could program the 676 to deal with that. Perhaps have it hit stop on the CD player...
Good thing is I haven't bought my new CD player yet and which one I get really isn't that important.
Thanks for the feedback.
