I just got a new 890 remote. I love the look and feel to it, but the programming is coming WAY short.

Is there ANY way for my to put in my own discrete codes? The ones it seems to be downloading from the internet are very wrong.

An example is my panasonic plasma. It appears to have only the code for on/off not the discrete code for on and the one for off. It is always getting out of sink and I've got to manually turn it on or off.

Just an example, but so far I'm very disapointed in the software for this remote. I have a pronto and love it's software, but I really wanted the hard buttons....

Thanks

If you mail the proto codes that you wish to add to Harmony Support they can add them for you. Unfortunately this does mean that it takes a day or 2 to get them added :-(

There used to be an means of adding them via the web site but this was removed sometime last year; requiring you to go via Harmony Support. It was hypothesised that one reason for this change was that if you added them yourself then it only improved your personal setup; however if you went via Harmony Support they can add them to the generic database thus allowing them to improve the online database for all users.

If you already have a Pronto you can just use it to teach the discrete codes to the Harmony.

I guess I'm more used to and interested in setting up my own macros. I had thought there would be some kind of "expert" mode to allow this.

Another example. System off. is putting my Tivo in standby. I've NEVER put my tivo in standby before. It's the little things....

Great feel on this remote. Just needs better software.

I have a HD recorder and a sat box a wish to stay on all the time, which is no problem. Go into the device setup for the devices, selct "adjust power settings" and then select "I want to leave this device on all the time" - Bingo :-)

Note: Select the option "There are no power buttons" instead of the buggy "I want to leave this device on all the time".

You just go into the setup menu and select to "leave this component on" instead of letting it put it into standby.

Also, you can learn any codes into the remote if you still have the discretes available on your Pronto. they may already be available in the harmony, you might just have to go into the setup and change what code it is using. A way to check this is to go into the device menu on the remote and see if the on and off discretes are in there, then you just have to change which codes the remote sends at the change of activity.

It takes a while to really figure out how to get around in the Harmony setup software, but I can't see that you wouldn't be able to figure it out if you figured out how to program a pronto...

No offense, but its not the software that's bad, you just need to learn how to use it. The Harmony can learn any command, if your old remote has it, just teach it to the Harmony.
