I've been having a good time with this new remote. However, my Mute button does not work properly when using my DVD activity. Instead of muting the receiver, it - pauses - the DVD player.

So I figured I'd go and customize the button...however when I try, there is no "Mute" button listed! Ever other "hard" button is listed with the exception of Mute.

Overall, I love the functionality of this remote. One other thing I need to get off my chest though...is it just me, or are these buttons a little "cheap" feeling for a $269 remote? My Ch Up and 9 buttons tend to stick, kind of annoying.

Thanks - Adam

The Mute button is referenced as VolumeMute.

By the way, the Mute button is supposed to mute the receiver AND pause the DVD. It makes it more convenient to answer the phone. Yeah, right, as if any of us would pause a DVD to answer the phone. :-)

HarmonyNut, I'm aware about the default Mute behaviour when whatching DVD or VCR, or listeing to a CD. However, in my setup, my Harmony just set the DVD (or VCR or CD-player) in pause. The receiver is NOT muted. Do You think there is an error in my setup?

By the way, my receiver is OK muted when pressing Mute in a Watch Television activity.

I've never noticed this. When I press mute, the DVD player, and DVHS machines both pause, and, of course, the receiver is also quiet then. I'm not certain whether it is actually in the Mute state. I'll try it tonight.

My setup operates in the same manner you describe. Muting the DVD or DVHS simply pauses the movie, it does not mute my receiver either.

As you found, when in the Watch TV activity, mute does mute the receiver.

To the other forum contributors - do you find the same thing?

No muting in my set up either (when viewing DVD), only DVD pause.

The easiest way around it is to learn the mute command from your receiver remote.

So our 768's work same way! That's good.

bootz, why learning the mute from the receiver again? I find the Harmony "mute-setup" both logical and smart as it is...it's a better way to mute the Home Theatre system by pausing the DVD/VCR rather than muting the receiver, isn't it?

I think the easiest would just be to change the button function

agree, and probably why they did it that way. I also thought, when I first read this, why not send mute and pause since some VCRs start playing if paused too long. But then I thought that it would mess-up the system.

pressing mute
DVD = pause
sound = off

after some time
DVD = play
sound = off

pressing mute

DVD = pause
sound = on

janid1967 and Anthony - you are both right, of course! Pausing the DVD or DVHS without muting the receiver is the perfect way to mute the system. Anthony's description of unsyncing the system shows why we should just leave the mute button configured the way Harmony sets it up by default.

'Dem Harmony guys was thinkin'!

OR.... the Harmony guys weren't thinkin' and should have simply muted the reciever in any mode as requested. I hadn't thought about the situation Anthony has suggested before, but it makes a LOT of sense.

For me the DVD player is no big deal as it will stay paused for ever, not sure about Tivo, and since I got Tivo, I never watch my VCR anymore, but I did run into the issue once before I had the Tivo, left the VCR paused too long.

It would be nice to have the choice.

Actually I do like it, I was just pointing out that it does not solve all possible problems.

For the DVD it works great, for watching video tapes, mabey not so good.
