I have a X10 IR543 to allow the harmony remote to control my living room lighting. I have been attempting to create menus within my Activities for setting up 'moods' for the different Activities. For example, dim lighting for DVD watching, bright for TV watching, etc.

I had been sending the codes to the modules for the brightness level after first turning them off, then on so that they were in the right mode for the commands. A typical light might take many commands to get it the right level, then downloading it to the remote takes about 10 minutes. Then fine tuning it takes another edit/download/test cyccle again. Very frustrating! I also appear to have discovered a limit in the number of commands in one menu item (I think) of around 16.

Anyway, the epiphany - I finally realized that it would be MUCh easier to just program in macros in Active Home and have the Harmony fire off the macro. It can also have delays in the macro. Now, once the menu items are in the Harmony, all I need to do is adjust the macro in Active Home to tweak the lighting.

So, now the question. I have an Activity called Control Lights that can be used to control the lights without running any other activity. I can find no way to modify the xml of this activity, or the IR543 device. The Control Lights activity has Light 1, Light 2, Light 3,... All On, All Off, All Commands menu items. I would like to change these to have names of my lights and macros instead - like LR Front Lights, DVD Lighting, Bedtime. I e-mailed Harmony and they replied back with instructions on Renaming Menu Items. This doesn't seem to work. Anyone do this before?

To modify xml for your "Change Lights" activity

On your Harmony Home Page
Under "Activities" (Right Hand Column)
Select "More Options" (one at the top of column)
Select "Modify XML" (at the bottom of page)
Select "Change Lights" from the listing (or another activity)

Trick here is to select the "More Options" up top by the column heading, not the one beside each listed activity.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have already been there. This is the code that is in my Control Lights Activity. As you can see, there aren't any of the menu items already showing in the XML. I can't change what I can't see!

I just tried playing with this on the website. I added a Light Controller Device (I picked a Lutron SPS-300LD-RP for this test). Then I selected "Needs Setup" in the Watch DVD Recorder Activity. I picked all my previous choices (either by selecting the green circle choice, or pick Next) until I got to the screen which allowed me to add the Light Controller, with a Function to the activity.

I didn't get a Control Light Activity on the Activities side of the screen.

This is probably the way you want to go as well. Hope it works.
