Harmony 768 - Great Remote, Great Company

Well I just received my 768 today. I have some Marantz equipment and thus have the RC2000 mkII, what was once known as the "Remote of the Gods" several years ago. But that was 5 or 6 years ago and I decided it was time for an upgrade - especially since everyone who tries to operate my system probably thinks they need to be a 'god' to do so...

Over the past year or so, I've come close to buying the Pronto, and the MX-500, but I just recently stumbled across reviews on the Harmony. It sounded like a cool remote so I bought it.

I'm here to say this is a cool remote. Very cool. I've spent the day playing around with it and it does everything I want it to. When they visit, my mom and dad can't even figure out how to turn my system on to watch TV. I'm very confident they'll not only be able to watch TV with this remote, but also watch a DVD or VCR tape.

I should also mention that if you need to do some advanced programing for your equipment, I didn't find that it was readily apparent exactly how to do that on the web site. However, Harmony plasters their customer service phone number everywhere you look. It's even on the plastic sleeve that covers the remote when you first open the box. I called them a couple of times today and they picked up immediately everytime and were very helpful. They took care of the customizations I was looking for and also explained how I could do it myself. Everything makes sense now, and I find the customization to be fairly easy.

One other note. When I first started using the remote, I found that the volume and channel keys would stick quite badly. However, after playing with them, it seems they just needed a little breaking in. I have absolutely no problems with any of the keys now.

I still need some play time with this remote, but so far I've very pleased. Also a big thumbs up to the Harmony customer service team.

I should also give a thumbs up to Surf Remote Control. I bought my remote from them partly because of their activity on this forum and also because they actually had a phone number I could call (try finding a phone number for Amazon or Buy.com). They were quite helpful and friendly on the phone and had good email communication during the order and shipping process.
