With the new 4.4.0 software, there is no option to enter pronto style ir hex codes...does anyone know of an alternative to enter these type of codes?

That option is not a feature of the updating software but the Web site.

In the last change Logitech made to the website they took away that option.

The alternative is to call the Customer service and ask them to add the command

If we end up going to customer service often enough with hex codes, they may well put the IR analysis center back up.

Not that I'm advocating going to them with spurious requests but certainly don't hesitate to ask them to add a hex code when you need it.

I have emailed them asking for this feature back. I have only recently got my 885 and am still finding and adding discreets for my devices. I can no longer do this without emailing them etc.

If I knew this feature was going then I would not have brought a Harmony - which would have been a great shame. I would encourage anyone that makes use (or has made use of in the past) this feature in the past to email them asking for its return. If they get enough people complaining about it they may put it back. I presume they though something along the lines of 'this page doesn't get accessed as much as the rest of the system so we will remove it'.
Cheers,
Rowan.

This is the response I received from support:

We understand that some of our customers have used this feature in the past. Commands entered into the IR Analysis Center do not populate into the public database. As a result the commands must be re-entered every time the device is added to an account.

In an effort to improve our database and further assist customers we request that users who need any Pronto or Hex codes added to the Harmony send the codes to us to be entered into your account. This will be done within 24 - 48 hours. This process allows us to add new commands to the database. When you add the device in the future the commands will already be included. This will better serve our customers.

Hmm... Interesting logic. However it doesn't take into account the fact that when searching for a discreet you will often find a couple of alternatives and have to try them in order to find the one that works. Could end up with even more rubbish in the database cos if it...

24 - 48 hours is a long time to wait to see if something works or if you have to search some more. Especially if there is a 7 hour time difference and so you end up with an extra day delay due to being asleep when they do it.

It means there is now virtually no possibility of using a harmony to search for a discreet for a new device - have to wait for someone with a different remote to do the searching for us (assuming someone has the device and wants to do the searching).
Cheers,
Rowan.

The normal Harmony support email/phone number. The email is [email protected] I believe.

You can email through the web site, but it is a bit harder to find - I think you have to go to the support page and do a search and then when the results are shown there is a button to contact support.
Cheers,
Rowan.

Resurrecting this thread.

Here's an email that I sent customer support.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello,

It has been a while since I accessed the Harmony site (due to being busy with other matters) but recently I noticed that you have removed the option of entering hex codes into the remote.

I understand that you expect me to send you the codes and you will supposedly add them to my profile in 24-48 hours.

THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE!

Since I like to experiment with the hex codes and often it takes me several tries to get exactly the result that I wanted, with this new process in place it might take me a WEEK to achieve something that I used to do in THIRTY MINUTES.

I am extremely disappointed and very upset with you removing a very important capability from my remote AFTER I PURCHASED IT, especially since this capability INFLUENCED MY DECISION TO BUY IT.

This is similar to buying a radio and one day finding out that the manufacaturer blocked it from tuning in to your favourite station, because he did not deem it popular enough.

I expect you to either add this capability back or provide me with a reasonable workaround.

Best regards,
Alex.

I'll help you out here.

"Thank you for your suggestion. It has been forwarded to our development team for consideration in future releases."

Seriously - what did you expect them to say?

So, can I send them a pronto .pcf file or do they want me to cut and paste the load of codes I need out of the file, into a text document? if so how is this an improvement for anyone over me doing the same thing on the website w/ their tech supports needing to intervene. Sounds like a federal jobs program to me

Harmony very rarely removes features from the site.
They just remove the links to the features.

To get to the IR analysis center simply use this link:

[Link: members.harmonyremote.com]

It is entirely possible that the URL's to edit XML will still work, even for devices that don't support it.
