When I push the Watch TV activity button, the LCD displays "Aspect". Is there any way to configure what screen the remote returns to after pressing an activity button?

If possible, I would like for it to default to the slide show. Anyone have a suggestion?

You can customize the buttons that are shown for a particular activity by selecting customize for the activity you wish to change and then selecting change the behavior of buttons. I don't think you can automatically activate the slideshow as you wish, but I only got my 880 yesterday so I'm not an expert in its programming just yet.
