Have you seen the new Kyocera Smartphone? It is a combined Palm V and CDMA Cell Phone with full HTML and Data capabilities.

I am drooling....

Oh, well, people have called me worse......

And I said, "What kind of a name is Worse?" They just rolled their eyes! I've never been able to understand why? hmmmmmm...........

Greg......M,

I ordered from a Sprint guy over the internet. $249.00 and had to sign a two year deal.

I should have it Monday.

You can also see it at Kyocera's web site PDA Buzz.

People have called you worse? Surely, you must be kidding.

Mason:

I want one. Period.

I know that one store up here was selling a QualComm model (big and bulky), but this seems to be no bigger than the phone I have now. About a 5 year old analog one.

I would never have bought the old QualComm one. It was just too big. But this appears to have the size, the standby time and talk time, the little things like a quick way to turn off the ringer, the shuttle on the side for zipping through address books, full Palm application ability. It seems well thought out.

I'll probably faint at the price up here and the monthly costs, but that still doesn't mean I don't want one!!!

Please let me know what you think of it, either on here or via email, k?

Yesterday I saw the old Qualcomm phone at Best Buy, what a brick. And ugly too.

This 6035 is suppose to have full HTML web browsing, as well as Sprint's Web functions and it supports Palms Web Clipping services.

I frequently need to access online databases, and needed a phone, cable and laptop to access the sites. This new phone will eliminate many seperate devices.

I'll post my initial impressions when I receive it, and I'll give you a better review after I've used it for a while.

Have a good week.

Big G

Had the phone a couple of days now. It is awesome.

The Palm address book and cell phone work together seamlessly. If you're in the palm and want to call from the address book, one touch.

From the phone you can one-touch access the address book w/out opening the flip. You use the keypad to advance to the name you want, select the number (home, work, cell, etc) and press send.

No one has guessed I was using a built-in speaker phone.

Tonight I set up my web access. Sprint has their free site, or you can use any dial-up service. I was surfing away pretty fast. It formats the screens in an easy to read format. This is all wireless.

I also set up my email. I can download my POP email and compose and send email. I set it up to leave it on the server so I can still have easy access to the mail later. Again all wireless.

Supposedly, I can fax from the phone, but I have not looked into that yet.

Oh, did I mention voice dial and voice answer in hands free mode.

It Also supports Palm's WAP like the Palm VII used, as well as Sprints Wireless Web service.

I also loaded Documents to Go, and it works great. Any Palm software is compatible; however, the OS is proprietary and NOT upgradeable to new Palm OS versions from Palm. This is necessary to insure reliable integration between the Palm OS and the Phone software. Kyocera and Palm have promised timely upgrades specifically for the device.

Some people are having trouble w/ hacks, but I see no need to use them, nor to I overclock, etc.

I have replaced a Palm IIIxe, a Samsung cell phone, laptop computer and data/modem cable with this device.

I'll do an update as I gather more experience with it.

Mason.

There is a HUGE following for this phone, and there are several message boards such as palmblvd.com,
PDAbuzz.com and qcp6035.com. Help and support should NOT be a problem.

Mason: we all appreciate your review. sounds good. I cannot wait until it is available (supported) in Canada.

So what are the negatives?

Anthony,

What type of service is avaiable there?

I seriously cannot think of a single thing I do not like about this phone. I guess I could say it is about the size of a Nokia 2160 phone from about circa 1997-1998, only it (Kyocera) doesn't have a HUGE battery hanging off the back.

How many of you guys are from Canada? I loved "Strange Brew", "a" and like a moron I talked like them for a week after seeing the movie for the first time. Showing my age now.....

I love the concept of combined cell phone/PDA with touchscreen. But I am also a sucker for small size, and this thing is just too big for my taste. I just went for the TM-510 by LG (www.lgjoyphone.com). It will be tough for manufacturers to find the right balance between phone size and decent screen size.

Mason! Did I tell you that I HATE YOU!!! ;-)

And it's spelled "eh", not "a"!

Well, we have Sprint Long Distance up here, so maybe there is a chance (in h*** ;-) that we'll get it up here. We can only hope.

But, it sounds super. It is probably about the size of the cell phone I have now, and I have not problem with that. Glad you like it!!!

Tanks, eh!

Arjen, are you also carrying a PDA? If so, how much real estate are you actually taking up?

Mason,

The TM-510 does have a PDA function...sort of. You can store 200 contacts with each 5 numbers, and it also has a calendar and appointment book. I am still waiting for the release of the (free) software that allows me to sync with Outlook.

I have used several PDAs over time, including Sharp Wizards, Zaurus, Palm and Windows CE. But since I mostly use a PDA for lookup, I have been quite happy with my REX for the last 2 years.

And now it looks like my phone can take over those simple PDA functions as well :-)
