I've only ever seen that on a HTPC case with a special integrated iMon IR receiver, which directly connected to the motherboard's power switch pins.

He said that you can throw the remote directly at the power button on the front of the computer.

Aim your Remote Control at the Ir Activated Scissors (A) cutting string (B) which causes sword (C) to sever cord (D) and allow guillotine blade (E) to drop and cut rope (F) which releases battering ram (G). Ram bumps against open door (H) causing it to close. Grass sickle (I) pops balloon (J) at the same time spike (K) stabs "Prune Hawk" (L). He opens his mouth to yell in agony, thereby releasing prune and allowing divers boot (M) to stomp on PC Power Button (N). You will, of course, need to reset several of the devices in order to toggle the Power Button.

Actually that seems like a Bad Idea - blocking all the fans. Simple solution: cut holes in the tabletop!

Here's a few ideas........
You can leave the computer on all the time. Just turn off the monitor, either by the switch, or have the computer turn it off in the screen properties.
Or if you have a windows 98 OS, then just go out and buy an APC UPS, attach it to the computer with the software. Then buy a x-10 remote controlled outlet. Plug the UPS into that outlet. To turn on the computer, just press the off button on the remote for the x-10 system. For some reason, if the computer is off, the UPS will turn the computer on just to run the "powerchute" software. But make sure that you go to the computer with in a minute, or else it will turn itself off again.

Check out: [Link: home-electro.com]This thing lets you turn on the computer using a Wake on Lan cable. I guess that is about the best you can do. Note: only available on the Serial Port version
