I'm looking to build a new cabinet for my TV which will house the DVD player, Receiver, VCR, etc underneath.

I'd love to have some nice tinted glass doors to hide this all away but I'm not sure if the IR signals from my Pronto would pass through the glass to the devices.

Anyone know whether this is possible or does glass affect the IR signals?

but generally it will pass through

IR is light -- so the answer is generally yes. But of course, as Adrian mentions, it depends on the exact type and color of glass.

Most of the time IR will pass through glass. Again tented glass or color glass is less effective. Also take into account where you will be using the remote. Try to stay away from areas where you have high amounts of light. Also if you get more than about 30 degres off of line of sight. ( 90 degres to your AV equipment) the glass will start to work as a mirror and begain to deflect IR and bounce it off to another part of the room. I run into this problem on a weekly basis as a AV installer.

I have not had any trouble having it pass through the tinted glass in the stand Sony makes for the Wega XBR -- that has beeb my only experience.

OK. Just stay away from lots of sunlight or any florescent light. Put a piece of paper between you to filter out bad light... Wha!? I know I know.
BTW.. I can pass IR through a salami on rye with a good strong remote... Flip your camcorder to B/W and watch some home movies in the dark to see how strong your remote is... put you Camcorder in the cabinet and watch yourself channel surfing. Hey!? It's late.. I do need to go. Can you tell?

Thanks for the spelling update and I spelled tint wrong. B.F.D. dude. Tell us all how you were able to get the IR to pass through your HEAD! Was it from being a strong remote. Can it like bench press 200lbs. OR as it pushed you on to the floor the remote hit your face and it set out a IR code at the same time. That's what I think. By the way what is BTW...? BFE, BYOB, BFD, FYI, and so on.

To answer your question any way what is tinted glass? 2 ways to make it. 1 is a film between 2 pieces of glass. Or sometimes it could be a dye. 2 like the kind you see in cars 1 film on the inside of a piece of glass.

Got any other brain busting ideas or questions. Please save the stupid ones for another day.

Which is a good remote control extender?
My tv fits in my wall unit blocking the RC with wood.
I have to lift my arm over my head for it to work.
I would like to continue using my current remotes.
