This Sunday sees the Nationwide Conference play off final (for promotion to the Nationwide Football League Division 3 - the Champions, Chester City, having gained automatic promotion) at Stoke City's Britannia Stadium. So is Hereford United taking part . . . No!

Having completed an astonishing season;

  • Coming second to Chester by a mere point (see table).

  • Equalling the Conference record for goals scored in a season (103).

  • Equalling the Conference record for the highest score (9-0 against Dagenham & Redbridge).

  • Equalling the Conference record for consecutive wins (11).

  • Having the highest home win of the season (7-1 against Halifax Town).

  • Winning more games than any other team (28).

  • Winning more away games than any other team (14).

  • Having the highest Goal Difference (59).

  • Being generally accepted to be the best footballing side in the Conference.

our play off semi-final against Aldershot Town (a team that finished a whole 21 points behind us) was ruined by some truly appalling refereeing decisions. So it is in fact Aldershot that’s through to the final (against Shrewsbury Town), whilst we’re left to lick our wounds and prepare for another season in the Conference. Let’s just hope the final isn’t marred in the same way.

It looks like a duck....it walks like a duck, but does it quack like a duck?

Of course you have, it's Association Football, to give its full title.
