Everybody wants to reinvent the wheel.

First, Why don't you tell us why this is a superior design, what's its advantage over the traditional shape of a remote?

Firstly all the buttons can be pressed by one movement of the thumb, easier than conventional remotes than usually need two hands or repositioning of the hand.
Secondly the remote is designed so that it can easily fit into the palm of the users hand comfortably with the "thumb groove" that secures the remote. I feel this design is superior as it is far more ergonomic quality than other remotes, it has been modelled on various sizes of hands to achieve the optimum level of comfort.
Thirdly the remote has a simplistic user interface unlike tradition models that have large numbers of buttons that make it hard for new users to use.
Other benefits that are not shown in the actual design are that this remote will not need batteries and will have a docking station to recharge it making it far more sustainable than traditional remotes that need new batteries regularly. All the plastics used in the manufacture of the remote will be easily recyclable unlike conventional and will be marked to identify what plastic has been used to aid recycling when the unit has reached the end of its life cycle.
Thanks for your feedback and any other feedback would be appreciated.
cheers

lkemble-cook: like I said in your other thread and ONEAC said in this one, you need more then a cool pic. The remote is there for its functionality, and you still have not dealt with that. Telling us that it will use recycled and recyclable plastic is OK, but at the end of the day how it is used is the most important. Explain the button layout and why you think it has an advantage, how does it make watching something easier...... That is what is the most important in a remote, that is why you use it. If it looks cool on the table is inconsequential. I admit a charger is a good idea, but no one will buy a remote just because it has a charger.

Off topic but why don’t manufacturers of standard CRT sets have a recharge cradle for the remote built in?

Anyway back to the design. Its roundish ..From the picture you can’t tell how big it is, is it the size of a C.D. disc?
If it is the size of a C.D disc if you hold a disc in one hand and move your thumb you can only move your thumb in a small arc.

You say;
Firstly all the buttons can be pressed by one movement of the thumb, easier than conventional remotes than usually need two hands or repositioning of the hand.

From your picture that’s impossible unless you have a magic bendy thumb that can leap over the small buttons and press those long buttons.

You also say
Secondly the remote is designed so that it can easily fit into the palm of the users hand comfortably with the "thumb groove" that secures the remote. I feel this design is superior as it is far more ergonomic quality than other remotes; it has been modeled on various sizes of hands to achieve the optimum level of comfort.

One size invariably does not fit all .Microsoft X BOX game pads are different sizes in Japan to the U.K and you can carry on with this type of analogy with all parts of the human body (With left handed people will the printing be upside down?.)

You comment
Thirdly the remote has a simplistic user interface unlike tradition models that have large numbers of buttons that make it hard for new users to use.

Many have tried this and failed good luck!

I like this idea you have

Other benefits that are not shown in the actual design are that this remote will not need batteries and will have a docking station to recharge it making it far more sustainable than traditional remotes that need new batteries regularly. All the plastics used in the manufacture of the remote will be easily recyclable unlike conventional and will be marked to identify what plastic has been used to aid recycling when the unit has reached the end of its life cycle.

Well quite a few universal remote have rechargeable batts with cradles but this increases cost as does making the remote out of recycled materials or marking the parts up (quite a few do I have seen ABS etc written on many a battery cover)

you finish
Thanks for your feedback and any other feedback would be appreciated.
Cheers

Sorry if All I have said is negative .I didn’t and don’t intend to rubbish your idea.
I have a few questions
What market are you aiming at?
How much is the projected price of the unit?
Is it customizable?

Hope any of this helps wolf
