a long time ago a PBS station just across the border used to have what they called British comedy night, while they had it they played
black adder
Dr.Who
Red Dwarf
Allo Allo
Yes minister and later yes PM
and at some point CBC used to have Mr.Bean
now are these shows just so classic that they are what you guys are referencing or isn't there any other UK shows :-)

Dad's Army (Don't Panic! Don't Panic!)
The Rise and Fall of Reginald Perrin
A Very Peculiar Practice (Comedy Drama)
Only Fools and Horses
Do Not Adjust Your Set (A Childrens programme, that wasn't written for children. Also non BBC)
The Goodies
It's a Square World
The Frost Report (Satire)
And (of course)
Monty Python
